When is college football going to have a legitimate championship and replace these bowl games with some playoffs?

From the pen of the great Drew Litton:

I wonder if anyone outisde of Minnesota and Iowa will watch the Insight Bowl. No wonder they buried it on the NFL network.

Basketball didn't have an established old boy system of year end bowl games. A post season tournament has been part of the game for a long time.

When the money's right.
Basketball has been able to do it for years.

Basketball didn't have an established old boy system of year end bowl games. A post season tournament has been part of the game for a long time.
And that's because of the money as well. Why else expand to 64 teams? They're in serious discussions right now to expand to a total of 96. There wont' be any more NIT. The regular season long ago ceased to be relevant, and now so will the post-season tournaments. The Mens' Basketball Tournament was once my favorite sporting event, but not now. I still will enjoy it, but nowhere near as much as I used to. Yes, it survived and thrived but it's because of the money and nothing more. If people want a football playoff they can have it ... provided they can come up with a way to make the bowl PTB to make more money.

These bowls could still be in place to allow people to see their favorite teams play one last time and then have a playoff on top of this.

I am sorry but that plan sucks. The whole point of a playoff is to settle it on the field. When you win on the field no one can say anything. I really don't understand what is so hard to understand about this.

I don't think it suck because it provides a decent compromise between the interested parties. The bowls still get to keep their identity and make more money - remember, that's the key to get any cooperation from them, and there is still a playoff amongst arguably the best teams in the country.

I am not looking for a compromise, I want a playoff. In that system you still would have at least one team that might be good. And that example doesn't have the best thing in sports, the cinderalla upset. The thing dreams are made of. The best sports stories are David defeating Goliath. The most important thing is that it is fair and right. It will happen, just don't know when.

i want a play off too! But washington should stay out of it! Let the fan vote on it and if over 50% say they want play off then they should have it! it the Usa way!
