Colin Trevorrow no longer directing Episode IX.

Another one bites the dust:

Colin Trevorrow is stepping down as the director of “Star Wars: Episode IX,” Disney announced on Tuesday.

“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on ‘Star Wars: Episode IX,'” Disney said in a statement. “Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”

The shakeup marks the third time in two years — and the second time in three months — that Lucasfilm has parted ways with a director.

It seems odd how Lucasfilm can't retain directors lately, but I'm happy about this news. Jurassic World was so bad, and Book of Henry so tone-deaf, that I'm happy Trevorrow isn't attached to Star Wars any more.
 
I'm a disappointed, but not totally heartbroken. It will be interesting to see who they get to replace him.
 
Fucking fantastic. I loathed Jurassic World and I was very disappointed by his hiring for Episode IX. Hopefully they can hire a better director in a timely fashion.
 
Considering how fast Ron Howard was put on Han Solo, I'm thinking they already have someone lined up for 9.

Then again 9 hasn't started yet (has it?) so they might not be in such a hurry.
 
I'm not too concerned. "Creative differences" could mean that Disney didn't like where Trevorrow was going with Episode IX.

I wouldn't be too surprised if a new director is announced by next week.
 
The article says he wrote it too, so I wonder if his script will end up being rewritten for whoever comes in to take over. I could see them not being able to change to much since a lot of it is probably going to be based of off stuff set up in TFA and TLJ.

I think they already hired a new scriptwriter about a month ago. His writing was out before his directing.
 
Rian Johnson is being rumored to continue on with Episode 9 by the same site that first mentioned Ron Howard taking over Han Solo.

I am surprised that was not the plan all along. Inconsistency in directing styles in this new trilogy always seemed to be a potential problem. The original concern was probably it would be too much for one director to take on two films so close to each other. But Rian seems to have worked with Lucasfilm really well.

Comparing Trevorrow and Johnson, I have only seen one of their previous films each. Jurrasic World's huge success was a shock, I found it very dull. I found Looper fanstastic though.
 
Meh. Many were predicting this after Book of Henry tanked that he'd probably not be involved anyway. Honestly, I don't care either way. I didn't see Book of Henry, and Jurassic World, though not a perfect film did have its moments. I had no objection to Trevorrow directing Episode IX, but I'm not bothered by his departure either.
 
Maybe they'll bring back Rian Johnson. Assuming The Last Jedi is good, it'd be nice to have some continuity in directors in the main trilogy. I never got why Lucasfilm jumped the gun so early when they brought Trevorrow on board for Episode IX before The Force Awakens had even come out.
