I'll be honest: I dislike most of Ilsa J. Bick's Trek stories, so I'm hardly an unbiased reviewer. Even so, I found Ghost to be one of the worst.
As usual, the characters' flaws were emphasized, and they have a lot of physical and emotional suffering. Also, like Signs from Heaven, the medical jargon was laid on a bit too thickly.
The story's worst flaw was that it did not answer enough of the questions it raised to be satisfying. The particulars of the deaths were explained, but the motives of the metamorphs were pretty murky. Maybe I'm just dense tonight, but I still have no idea what happened to Lense's brother and what the connection to Genesis was.
Naming characters after Trek editors can be fun, but introducing three in rapid succession pulled me out of the story.
I hope that some joy will return to this series. I can't remember the last time I read about a character that was actually happy.
