While watching TOS, I noticed that the non-DVD captions sometimes offer interesting alternatives.

For example, the captions for "The Cage" render the "American Continent Institute" http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/American_Continent_Institute as the "American Comet Institute". (which sounds more space-ish)

Granted, I know that Trek is particularly susceptible, given its alien names that can be spelled numerous ways.

Anybody ever seen any other odd captions on this and other Trek serieses?

 

[Bad Thoughts]

I tend to use close captioning a lot, an artifact of having watched a lot of silent movies. There are plenty of times were captioning reveals elements of the dialogue that were not meant to be heard well, like background conversations or garbled speech. I can't remember all of them, but in one Zek talks about shagging Ishka.

I always thought the guy in The Cage sounded like he was saying "American Incontinent Institute."

While we're on the topic of CC, I always thought it was weird that the cartoon Bobby's World always had captions in the late '90s, even though I did not have closed captioning on my TV. It turns out that it was done that way to help kids learn to read.
