Close in weapons(Face to Face)

James Wright

Does Starfleet have any weapons besides the KaBar knife for close in fighting what's known as face to face?
The Klingon's have at least 4 different weapons for close in work, the Bat'leth, the D'ktahg, the Qutluch and the Mek'leth.
Phaser rifles can't even be used as clubs, they're easily broken.
Just curious.

Hand phasers, OTOH, can be easily used as clubs, knives and the like. Just squeeze the trigger of your stun gun while you punch the enemy with it; that's more than a double whammy (with fries).

Really, the whole point of a hand-to-hand fight is that you bring a gun to it.

The only possible downside with using your phaser would be that it makes more noise than a knife and emits a bright light. Then again, if you attack the enemy with a knife, he is likely to make a lot of noise!

The phaser rifles breaking easily was a stupid gimmick.
One would think the construction of materials in hand phasers and rifles would be far more advanced, light and if anything, next to impossible to break by simply smashing it against a person.

...Actually, in DS9, the rifles were consistently shown to be excellent and durable clubs, and continued to work as phasers after being used as clubs. The same was true of all enemy rifles, too.

The only time a phaser rifle broke was in ST:NEM - and Picard seemed astounded that such a thing had happened. We might well speculate that this particular individual rifle was somehow flawed in construction, rather than in design. Mondays still exist in the 24th century...

Starfleet trains their officers to use the best weapon possible: their minds.
