Cities XL: anyone played this yet?

I dropped by Future Shop earlier today and happened to see this on the shelf. Looking at Wikipedia, it looks like the game was released earlier this month.

Has anyone played tried this game yet? I am interested in city builders, but the reviews seem kind of mixed (ex. IGN has it at 8.1 / 10, but Gamespot gave it a 6 / 10). So I'm interested to see what anyone here thinks of it.

I was looking forwards to this for a while, but I've decided to hold off. The lack of focus on single player (ie, no mass transit option unless you buy in to their weird MMO thing :wtf:), disappearance of long-promised features (the mass-placement tool and highway\roadway customization options) along with a number of bizarre design choices (fixed 40x40m lot sizes, strange highway construction, NO REGION PLAY ) have kept me away. The folks over at Simtropolis generally seem to be disappointed as well, and that alone is enough to keep me away.

Don't get me wrong, I think the game has potential, and it's certainly the best-looking city simulator out there, now, I just think it has a ways to go until it becomes a must-have. I've adopted a wait and see attitude: once the game has been out for a while and MC and the community have had some time to work on it, it may be worth getting. For now? I'll pass.

Good, I was hoping this thread would get your attention. :p

It's disappointing that they have decided to reserve some (important) features for the online component. I remember reading a few positive things about it months ago, but that was about it. Guess I'll give it a pass for now, and maybe look at it again later.

Me? Attracted to a thread on city builders? Never! ;)

The one that really sealed the deal for me was mass transit. I really don't want to pay a monthly fee for what seems like very limited MMO features, just so that I can get features that have been around since SC2K. That's just not right.
