Churchgoers & Strippers Protest One Another

Protesting the protesters

Every weekend for the last four years, Dunfee and members of his ministry have stood watch over George's joint, taking up residence in the right of way with signs, video cameras and bullhorns in hand. They videotape customers' license plates and post them online, and they try to save the souls of anyone who comes and goes.

The strippers, in turn, have now started protesting the church.

I find this interesting if not a little absurd on both ends of the spectrum.

First of all, how it is not illegal to post people's plates online for the purpose of outing them to others?

Second of all, who wouldn't want to see strippers as they went into church? (I'm not being [entirely] serious here.)

If the strippers are going to protest, I say good for them!

If I walked by a church and saw a bunch of strippers outside grilling up burgers and corn on the cob. I would look up in the sky and say "Thank you".

To be fair, the strippers bring their own religious views into the mix with signs quoting passages from the Bible that deal with not judging others.

Gotta side with the strippers on this one. There are far worse things out there than strip clubs. This pastor is only targeting them because it's an easy path to becoming famous/rich through media coverage. False prophets in sheep's clothing, indeed.

A big reason why my wife and I parted ways with Christianity is the arrogance and heavy-handedness. Those pastors KNOW, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what God wants, what's a sin and what isn't, etc. Calling names, placing labels, etc, is not very Godlike, in my opinion. I am reminded of an old episode of Barney Miller in which an elderly couple could not make ends meet by running a small grocery store. They changed it into a porno shop and were able to make enough money to survive. They did not care for the items they sold....or even understand some of them :guffaw:....but it helped put food on their table.

Judge not, lest ye be judged.

and they try to save the souls of anyone who comes and goes.

That's the main problem I have with them right there, man cannot save the souls of anyone, only Jesus can. We should live our lives as examples to others, love like Jesus, but we have no power to save souls as humans.

The small city I grew up in had church groups protest, threaten to boycott and successfully prevent the movie Showgirls from coming to town. I guess the fact that one local businessman owned all the movie theaters made the boycott threat easier to pull off.

Of course, you never heard a peep about the local XXX shop. Why? Because one protest makes headlines, the other does not.

I'm not impressed by a church that looks like it's run out of the pastor's garage.

Anyone else thinking of that Father Ted episode?

"Down with that sort of thing!"

"Careful now!"

(*recieves blank looks from 90% of TBBS*)

Yes! It was my first thought when I read the OP.

Good for the strippers. Hopefully all this publicity will be good for their business. Religious fanatics should just hide in their churches and beat themselves with pain sticks if they like misery so much.

Dunfee said it's not that simple. He said he consistently offers the women help, a chance at redemption.

"I tell them, 'I will put a roof over your heads, and your bills will be paid, and your children's bellies will be full,'" he said. Yet they don't come inside.

I bet the food, payed bills and shelter he's promising will come from the "great things" God will provide if the accept Him and not through anything the Pastor himself will do for the women.

Guy needs to get over himself.

If I walked by a church and saw a bunch of strippers outside grilling up burgers and corn on the cob. I would look up in the sky and say "Thank you".

I dunno, you may not judging from the look of the strippers shown in the article's webpage and companion video.

Hey! No need to introduce reality here. :)

In all things...

I find it odd that anyone would think protesting a strip club would be benefical to anyone. Wouldn't it be more productive to spend time helping in a soup kitchen or something?

I've been to Warsaw, Ohio (best friend's family lives there) it's very, very, very rural. Very. Very small town, and it doesn't surprise me the local church looks like some dude's house. In fact, it surprises me that a strip-club would be there, but whatever.

Money for sex or promises of sex? World's oldest profession. Sex is older than church.

It's a very small town a very sparsely populated area. And very rural. I think the town's population is only around 800 people.

You can bet on it, then. I guarantee there's at least one prostitute, several "escorts" and a number of people who are willing to get down with somebody else's significant other when no one is looking.
