Chunnel trains stopped by bad weather

I'm having a hard time figuring out how a difference in air temperatures would cause trains to lose traction in the channel tunnel.

Sources at Eurostar are blaming condensation shorting out the electrical sytems when the trains went from sub-zero temperatures outside to the tunnel to 25°C inside.

The amazing thing is that it affected so many trains. Quite simply the build up of moisture that guarantees a fault must be pretty significant.

I am looking forward to going through that tunnel some day. It's an amazing piece of engineering.

I think the Seikan tunnel that the Japanese built between Honshu and Hokkaido is even more amazing given the nature of the geology in that region. It's longer than the Chunnel but the undersea distance is smaller.
