Chuck Summer Thread - Chuck vs. Comic-Con 2009

Thanks or the link...I missed most of Chuck last season for various Monday night reasons.

This was fun and I want action figures as well.

I actually don't know what would get us a back 9. NBC has only said that Chuck would premiere early if something gets cancelled. I guess that if the episodes come back to higher ratings we'll get picked up for a full season.

Maybe we should start planning our $5 Footlong Chuck Season premiere parties. Start off the season showing the power of the fans, make a big splash and get noticed by the NBC suits.

The problem is that this is a "Firefly" situation....i.e., we fans have overestimated our influence. The renewal campaign directly affected NBC's decision, yes, and we should be proud about that. But the situation remains that Chuck only gets 7 million viewers a week, and that's really low by network standards, even a network with a diminished reputation.

We need NEW viewers. NBC's going to help by promoting the heck out of the show during the Olympics but that only goes so far (see "My Own Worst Enemy" last year). We need to raise the ratings out of the 2 and 3 range. So I guess that means loaning the DVDs out to everyone.

Problem is, I've already done that with my season 1 set and none of my friends have taken to the show.

^

Well, I think part of the problem is that it's still seen as a niche show despite being a blend of everything. It's got everything a potential viewer would want, yet no one is watching. Seriously....with a blend of comedy.action, wit, pop culture, romance, espionage, smart writing, and an awesome cast, why does this show struggle even to get the same numbers as Heroes? It's got to be more than the timeslot.

Like I said over at the ChuckTV boards, it's as if, in today's TV climate, if a show isn't a sitcom, a cop show, or a "reality" show, its ratings suffer.

And it's sad.

I was just rewatching "Chuck vs. The Dream Job" and I got hit with an awesome idea. In the episode, Chuck's dad remarks how Ellie looks just like her mother. It got me thinking, who could play that role? Who looks like Sarah Lancaster but is a generation older?

Lynda Carter. TV's Wonder Woman. I think it would be an excellent match. As good as Scott Bakula was as Chuck's father, if not better. What do you think? Can you think of a better person to play the role?

Alternately, it occurs to me that Sarah Lancaster would be a good choice to play Wonder Woman in a new movie.

You know what, I'm really looking forward to this. I don't have a problem with Kreuk, so I'm cool with her being on the show.

I don't have a problem with Kristen Kruek joining the cast. Part of my problem with her in Smallville is that the writers gave Lana such a whiny personality and instead of being strong she came off being a weak character and they had to give her superpowers to make her impactful in Clark's world. I'm hoping that the writers of Chuck will do a better job with her. I'm excited for this season.
