Christmas viewing...

We're into December and our traditional seasonal viewing traditions come into play. We've seen them countless times before and yet they're "must sees" and we never tire of them---so what will you be watching?

My list:

The Bells Of St. Mary’s (1945)
The Bishop’s Wife (1947)
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
A Christmas Carol (1951)
Christmas In Connecticut (1945)
A Christmas Story (1983)
The Homecoming (1971)
Frosty The Snowman (1969)
How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
The Little Drummer Boy (1968)
The Man Who Saved Christmas (2002)
Miracle On 34th Street (1943)
Prancer (1989)
Remember The Night (1940)
Rudulph The Red Nosed Reindeer (1964)
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (1970)

The emboldened titles are the ones I've watched so far this season. Interesting to note how many Christmas movies were made in the '40s that have become classics. And the same with kids specials from the '60s. Beyond that it gets sporadic.

I'm looking forward to seeing The Christmas Carol given that I just recently read Dicken's original book for the first time.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)

Love Actually, Elf and Hook are the ones I always watch. And then I just catch whatever is showing on tv.

We put our tree up the first week of November, so we start the season a little early.
Seriously, I am hardcore Christmas. I love the holiday.

My girlfriend and I have been watching
a film called Christmas Story(2007) in the past few years.
It is a nice film, though I doubt many here have seen it.
Its worth watching, though:)

Trailer:http://youtu.be/xJwwHUNyVkI
Imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0772176/

This year I am planning to buy few more Christmas films to my collection, not sure which ones yet, though.
I've never heard of this and I like the look of it! I'm going to look it up. Thanks!

In all my 43 years I have never watched It's a Wonderful Life all the way through in one sitting. I have probably seen the movie several times in bits and pieces, but never just all at once. I'm going to finally do it this year.

One of these days (or years) I'm going to do a revisiting thread of Christmas specials just as I do occasionally of television shows.

On christmas eve, I usually watch A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas(cartoon), Garfield Christmas and a Nightmare Before Christmas.

I usually keep my annual Christmas special/film watching to three:

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (animated, of course)
A Christmas Carol (the 1984 made-for-tv version with George C. Scott)
Scrooge (the 1970 musical version with Albert Finney)

That last one's fairly obscure, but it's well worth looking for. The music and lyrics were done by Leslie Bricusse (who did the same duty on the original Willy Wonka film), and the supporting cast has a lot of fine old-time British character actors. Sir Alec Guinness plays Marley's ghost. It's popped up in syndication occasionally in the last few years, but in a heavily edited form with two of the best sequences edited out. Best to search out the dvd.

I'd add a fourth one to the list, John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together, if whoever own the rights to the special would ever get off their butts and release it on home video.

My annual must-watch list:

  • A Charlie Brown Christmas
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas ('66 version)
  • A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott)
  • Christmas Eve on Sesame Street
  • A Christmas Story
  • Love Actually
  • The Family Stone
  • Miracle on 34th Street ('47 version)
  • White Christmas
The only one I've watched so far is Charlie Brown, but I've got plenty of time.

Love Actually is a really nice Christmas movie, and I still think Elf can't be beat.

ITS SANTA!!! I KNOW HIM!!!!
