Christmas goft: Apple TV or Roku?

I'm going to get my parents a Netflix box for Xmas (I don't current use Netflix but many friends of mine do...)

I was leaning towards the Apple TV because of the supposed ease of use, and support. However it seems very limited in what it can do, iTunes or Netflix.

Roku boxes can do more for less money, but support sounds horrid. If something goes wrong my parents would have to call Indian support (and I live too far away to run over)


Still the Roku sounds like more fun...

I would say it depends on what you know about your parents...

Do you think they (not you ) will be interested in doing more than watching movies from Netflix/iTunes? And how well do they cope w/ iffy customer service for products or services they already have?

Tora Ziyal is right. The question you have to ask yourself is "Will they use any of the extra features?"

If they will, then the Roku is the way to go. If they won't use the extra features, but will watch movies...then you go with the Apple.

I think I'm mostly concerned with buying a dud unit...they do not do well with tech support (they had to call support for DSL once in India...I think my Dad almost had a heart attack he got so angry)

Maybe neither. Perhaps Google TV instead.
