Chris Pine Says Star Trek XII is a Character-Driven Drama ....

A few droids and the Star Trek franchise's journey to the Dark Side would be complete...

I dunno. Did anyone else think that when he said "robots" and other stuff, he wasn't talking specifically about Star Trek XII, but about the kinds of big-budget, special effects-driven movies--like the Transformers--that have been out recently?

^ Could be. As if he's saying that the character-based stuff can hold its own with the robots etc. He also goes on to single out the popularity of Hulk in The Avengers movie; again, I think he's just emphasising how well that character was depicted, as oppose to suggesting that Spock will turn green and smash things.

Though it would be cool if he did.

That's how I read it. He seems to be saying that Abrams and company remember that characters drive the story rather than the action. The movie-goer has to relate to the characters. It's not just a movie one goes to because it's chock full of "kewl" FX and things blowing up, and it doesn't matter that the characters are just ciphers.

SO for those of you worrying about Star Trek 12 becoming the next transformers where it’s all action and no plot.

don’t worry its not going to happen. Chris Pine has promised us that.
I'm seeing the same problem with this thread as with your other one: you've read the title of an item which TrekWeb copied whole from somewhere else (Collider, in this case) and dashed off to post a thread based on the title alone.

What can you say about the rest of the interview - the part which comes after the title? Give the topic some more substance, please.

this kind of film is a small
character-driven story, matched with robots or aliens or
spaceships.
ROBOTS!!

robots does not mean transformers...
[norman]...but if transformers are robots, and this movie is about robots, but this movie is NOT about transformers, but transformers are robots, then this movie is not about robots...[/norman] (shuts down is shower of sparks) ;)

..but yeah -- I realize that all transformers are robots, but not all robots are transformers.

Hello M'Sharak

I am not into writing or summarising someone comments, sometimes my words gets misunderstood this is why I prefer to post a link where other fans can read the writer's exact words instead of mine’s.

Yea, that's exactly what I thought, "This isn't going to be a Michael Bay Movie, all action and no characterization"

Well, I'm goin' up to Frisco to join a psychedelic band...
