Chris Pine hasn’t heard anything about ST IV

I’m starting to think that there will not be another Star Trek film...Chris Pine was interviewed today by Extra and this is what he had to say...

"I haven't really heard anything about it. I haven't gotten the script, so we'll see what happens, but I love this group of people.””

His comments don’t exactly fill one with confidence that there will be more ST films. I would have thought that there would have been some type of progress by now on a script or at the very least Pine would have been privy to some kind of behind the scenes information that the film was moving towards production.

Certainly this small soundbite doesn’t mean that there won’t be more ST films, but it doesn’t sound very promising either...Here is the link to the interview

Doesn't sound good to me, but you could tell things were going this way. We're nearly nine months on from Beyond's release and there's been, well... nothing. If there were any realistic plans in place to make a fourth film I'm sure we would have head something by now.

Pretty sure it was a lot longer than this after Into Darkness that we heard anything about Beyond

Yeah but Into Darkness was/is the most successful Trek movie of all time worldwide. It was a given there'd be another after it. Not so Beyond, which has probably barely broken even at this point.

honestly it's not that different from what they always say after each movie. Zoe too said she didn't get a script yet but she hopes they do more movies..which is what she said before stid and beyond were officially in the works too.
You'd be surprised by how little actors know in general. Pine himself joked once that people in the costumes staff etc always know more things than him and that they get to know what happens in the movie or if it's even made relatively last minute compared to other people behind the scenes. They didn't even know anything sure about them hiring Lin for Beyond until they got the official news like everyone.
Of course, their agents (Chris, Zoe and Zach are represented by CAA which is quite big as an agency) would keep track of everything and know more details because they have to make sure there aren't conflicts in their clients filming schedule. But I suppose they don't share any news with their clients until anything is sure and there is something in the works ..that's their job so that actors don't even have to worry about checking their projects and keep track of everything.

anyway the news not news about a fourth movie are nothing unusual. We don't know for sure that there will be a movie, that's nothing new. We just know there is definitely a possibility and JJ wants to (as a producer and possibly story consultant of some sort) as they already have a story they like..but everything depends on many factors especially who is writing the script.

TM.com has the Pine story but with news that Zoe Saldana will be unavailable for a long while due to Avatars and that Paramount is looking for a new CEO
Paramount looking for new CEO with Grey out after bad 2016

Another factor with regards to the next Star Trek movie is that Paramount is in the midst of a management shakeup, with CEO Brad Grey stepping down last week. It was under Grey’s 12-year reign at Paramount that JJ Abrams was brought in to reboot the Trek franchise as a tentpole property. However after the studio posted a major loss for 2016, he was shown the door. While Star Trek Beyond was the studio’s highest grossing film for the year, it still under-performed expectations. As noted by Deadline last week:

Grey wanted to move the studio forward, but the problem for Grey was that he picked a bad time to have his worst year, with the studio at the bottom of the heap in 2016, losing $455 million for the fiscal year that ended in September. Sequels didn’t work: Star Trek Beyond, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Zoolander 2, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back were way down from previous outings.

The search for a new CEO is currently underway and the studio recently announced a $1B new financing deal with two Chinese companies who will fund 1/4 of the studio’s films for the next three years. The CEO of Viacom – Paramount’s corporate parent – told investors this week the various parts of the corporation weren’t "connected" and Paramount Pictures was "run like an island. It didn’t benefit in any way from our network portfolio and its brands." According to the New York Times Viacom’s new strategy is to create more synergy between Paramount and its various cable
brands, however they report the studio will still "focus on franchise and tentpole projects." But until a new CEO is in place, it’s likely no big decisions are being made at Paramount.

Lets hope the new CEO is a trekkie

It's supposed to be a time-travel movie, perhaps they binned him and signed up Shatner?

Zoe Saldana also said she hasn't heard anything about it either. So the question is, what was Chris Hemsworth talking about when he said it was the next movie he was doing after The Avengers?

It's still Paramount's highest grossing film of 2016, which must count for something. Especially when you consider how poorly the others did (their second highest only pulled in 90 million).

I wouldn't be too surprised if the movie takes place while Kirk and Spock are on shore leave together or something - leaving Zoe to Avatar and the rest of the Enterprise crew to little money-saving cameos

That doesn't make sense. If they're going to do a Star Trek 4, they're going to have all the actors from the original three onboard if the story calls for it.
I imagine that a script is being worked on and nothing will be announced until they have a script, a title and a potential release date.
I'm guessing the main cast were optioned for a fourth movie after Beyond finished.

I don't think Pine's comments say anything good or bad about STIV at this point. Pegg and Jung could still be working on the script or a dozen other reasons why he hasn't been reached yet about the movie that aren't "The franchise is on fire and everyone dropped the ball."

Yup-Non story to me. Everything is fluid.

While I'm still nervous about the future of the movie franchise, the earliest we could expect a possible new movie to go into production is next year if we're looking at a 2019 release. There is no way there would be a script ready by this point but rather maybe a story breakdown and even if there was a script, actors won't be seeing anything until much closer to actual production.

I don't think Hemsworth said that he was shooting Star Trek next all he said was that he had talk to Abrams about the story and that he was off to film Thor next.

Paramounts CEO Brad Grey, the one who brought the new Abrams Trek in, is gone and my gut feeling is, so is this version of Star Trek.

There will be more Star Trek films, but I think it will take a while and will be completely different from previous incarnations.

That would be a shame. Before Beyond, I wouldn't have cared, but now I'd like to see one more Kelvin film. Star Trek Beyond, while not perfect, actually FELT like Star Trek again. I'd love to see them have one more go at doing a great action adventure Trek film with the Kelvin crew.

Paramount continues to bumble their way through making movies. It could be that the Abramsverse is done, or it could be they are planning on recasting to lower costs.

I liked all of the Kelvin movies...but I must admit that Beyond definitely had the most "TOS" feel among the three. I agree that it would be a shame to leave it there now.
