In the four years since the cancellation of Stargate SG-1 actor Christopher Judge (“Teal’c”) has been at work on what he hoped would be his next project: Rage of Angels. Created by Judge, it would be a series for him to produce, write, and star in (story).

The story centers on the archangel Gabriel (played by Judge), who turns away from the rules of heaven and visits Earth to find the lost angel, Michael. Judge’s hope for the character of Lucifer? SG-1’s Michael Shanks (“Daniel Jackson”).

Now word comes to us that the series concept (originally optioned by MGM, which also produces Stargate) has been released by the struggling studio and picked up by Starz Media, a pay cable network in the United States, and DirecTV. Though the Starz network is known primarily for airing blockbuster movies, it has recently followed HBO and Showtime into the world of original scripted programming, including the current series Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

At least it's now a series although I don't know when or how I'll be able to see it since we don't have Starz.

Frak! Does this mean I have to subscribe to Starz???

Ah, I'll wait for the DVDs. Or maybe it'll appear on ABC or someplace.

I hope that Michael Shanks doesn't get cast as Satan, tho. He just isn't a very interesting actor. We need some real superstar for a role like that. Michael Emerson will be looking for a job pretty soon, for instance. Or Terry O'Quinn for that matter...

Interesting. Maybe it'll show up on Netflix, like 'Spartacus'. I don't mind Shanks, but I don't really see him playing Satan. If he does, it seems like it would be the most harmless, goofy Satan ever.

Does anyone remember "Brimstone"? I thought John Glover was pretty awesome as the Devil in that one. Heh, maybe he could give it another go.

Shanks could be a minor demon - annoying and egotistical, but comical and hard to take seriously.

Or Ray Wise in Reaper. The number of potentially awesome Satans out there is large. No need to settle for Shanks. Oooh, I got it: EJO!

Do you watch Burn Notice? Michael Shanks did a pretty good, crazy scary villain in it IMO.

Yeah, good for him. Glad to hear this is moving forward. I'll look forward to seeing this in whatever shape or form it airs.

Shanks as Satan? If Judge is so keen on having him play the role, why not?

I take it after SG:1 a lot of work didn't come there way.

Shanks has been guest starring on a number of shows, Amanda Tapping has her own show and Chris Judge had been working to get this pilot off the ground.

I wonder if with this material they will be able to find some angles that haven't been covered between the Prophecy films and the series Supernatural.

I thought I had read somewhere that Judge said that Shanks will be playing Satan's spoiled, whiney son.

That sounds more his speed. But if Judge wants an actor who can play Satan's spoiled, whiney son to the hilt, he should hire the guy who's already done just that on Reaper, namely, Armie Hammer - funny as, well, hell! :D

Michael Shanks is a pretty awful actor. Maybe he can do his Hawkman voice if he gets the part.
