Chris Cornell -- "Scream"

Timby

The stoicism of the true warrior
Admiral
What the HELL?

I was already a little leery of Cornell teaming up with Timbaland after Carry On (which I initially loved, but isn't aging well at all), but after hearing this ... good Lord. I've heard of going in new musical directions, but this is just that damn OneRepublic song from last year with some Cornell vocals atop it.

Well, at least Scott Weiland is back into booze and coke and is well on his way to self-destruction again, so there's some entertainment to be had from '90s grunge icons.

For a very brief moment, as I clicked this thread, I thought maybe you were going to be talking about how he screams his way through the end of "You Know My Name"

I have yet to hear any tracks from Chris Cornell's new disc all the way through, and I'm going to keep an open mind. I'm definitely expecting it to be a stylistic departure from his earlier work, but the man is my personal favorite American hard-rock singer/songwriter of the '90s and he's given me years and years of listening enjoyment since I picked up my copy of Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger in 1992 and has built up incredible goodwill on my part, so he'd have to try really hard for me to be disappointed!

I've heard 5 tracks off the new album, and they are ALL R&B orientated pop songs, although 3 of them are actually ok, just unexpected and very different. I'm still gonna buy the album, it would not be right to not give a Chris Cornell album a proper good listen. But yeah, i'm... hesitant.

Yeah and he has a new album out on Nov 25th, the track streaming on his myspace is really good.

I want my Soundgarden back!!!!!!!
:(

This is something that my nephew would like. :angryrazz:

I'm black chink who would rather listen to Alice in Chains than T.I.

This is T.I. like music.

The more Chris's life seems to "improve," the worse the music seems to get, unless he's in a band.

I hate saying that, but it's true.

Cornell's first solo album, Euphoria Morning, had a R&B vibe to it too, but it was kind of a very subtle thing--one of those things that you don't realize until you kind of think about the basic arrangements and whatever.

That being said, I might be the only one not surprised that Cornell did go this route. It's always been said that rhythm & blues laid down the foundation for rock, and that's apparently the area where Cornell is exploring, I guess...

^ Carry On had some of the same elements and listening to a lot of his vocals even with Soundgarden it's evident that he is influenced by a lot of Motown and the like, but what I have heard of this album it's not a vibe as such, it's just R&B.

Haven't heard the whole album though, so it might not all be like this.

This is the 5th official single though believe it or not, they've been pushing the album back hoping one of them would be a hit, they have not been.

Wait, so you're saying that hiring a bloated, hamfisted, plagaizing shitpiece as the producer wasn't a bright idea?
