China agrees with Kimc re: time travel!

I guess they too, have had enough of such silliness. :vulcan:

New guidelines issued on March 31 discourages plot lines that contain elements of "fantasy, time-travel, random compilations of mythical stories, bizarre plots, absurd techniques, even propagating feudal superstitions, fatalism and reincarnation, ambiguous moral lessons, and a lack of positive thinking."

Does this mean they're anti "Firefly" too?

I guess I'm going to have to cancel my book tour for my fanfic. ;)

Hmmm, "random compilations of mythical stories, bizarre plots"... sounds like Xena is persona non grata too!

What the heck are they going to watch on TV over there? Repeats of "Mayberry"?

What a load of crap. Those are all of the best types of shows! And is there any real justification for this? I didn't see any when I skimmed the story.

They should just stop playing around and say that science-fiction and fantasy is now banned there. Why be coy about it, really?

Time travel in sci fi while done well in some instances has become way overused, imo. However, I'm not at all a fan of China's policies on freedom of expression. Just setting the record straight here. :)

Next, they're going to specify that if a ship is in an unfriendly section of space and has a finite number of shuttles, the writers must keep track of just how many shuttles they have.

Killjoys.

So what exactly are all those Shoulin movies they've been making for years, re-enacted documentaries? You mean folks in China really do fly though the air with swords, make whooshing noises when they turn quickly & jump backwards up walls?

Or could it be that an American SiFi Movie broke all box office records in China, cutting into their profit from those Shoulin movies. Shall I whisper "Avatar", and the upcoming sequels?

I think they've always been closed off to outside forms of art and culture.

You know, this makes me curious what they intend to do about World of Warcraft and other sci-fi/fantasy MMOs. Folks in China are infamous for working for companies to harvest and sell in-game currency.

Not to mention all the legit players.

They have already had to completely redo much of WoW for China because they do not allow the depictions of anything dead. I know they did not have the WOTLK expansion, whether they do now I'm not sure.. but that would prevent them from having the Cataclysm expansion as well.

Heh. The Chinese government reminds me of the Borg: big, mind-controlling (or attempting to anyway), and assimilating life. "Resistance is futile. We are Big Brother-- er, the Borg. Prepare to be assimilated. You will adapt to service... us. Death is irrelevant. Life is irrelevant. [Multiple] children are irrelevant. You are irrelevant. Science fiction is irrelevant."
