Chief's Best Episode was in The Wounded

Photon

Commodore
Commodore
He was fabulous. The scene w/him and Maxwell singing and Maxwell realizes the causes is hopeless is gold

Well there wasn't a whole lot of competition. The rest of the time he basically said little more than "Yes, Captain" or "Ready to transport".

Which is kind of amazing, considering he was easily one of the strongest actors on the show.

I loved O'Brien! He didn't really do much at all to start off with, but he was gradually given more and more to do. I loved him on The Wounded, which I agree was probably his best TNG episode. He was in the first poker scene in Q Who, and he had other good roles as well in Data's Day, Disaster, Power Play, and Realm of Fear.

I was under the impression that they based parts of his DS9 character off of this episode. His history with the Cardassians, the Irish folk-tunes, etc

Genuinely the best Star Trek episode of ANY ST series dealing with another starship captain.

RAMA

Yep, he was good in that episode. I think Colm Meaney was capable of more than the writers gave him.

 Very true.

#The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone, in the ranks of death you will find him#

One of the best TNG episodes ever.

You get the feeling after watching O'brien and Maxwell together that you really wouldn't have minded serving on that ship.

It's good they gave Colm more to do in DS9.

Can't argue with all the praise being heaped upon Colm Meaney. I always liked him on TNG and wished we had seen more of him. I was very happy for him when he went to DS9.

I remember seeing an interview years ago where it was stated that they producers were aware that he was one of the stronger actors, hence him being made a regular on ds9. I think with TNG they'd already established core characters and didnt want to introduce another, at the expense of developing some of the other core players.

As for his ds9 character being 'based' on his ds9 performance, of course it is, its the same character, he references his time on Ent-D all the time in ds9.

Nothing productive to add here, except this was an exceptional episode. One of the best.

I don't know, they added ensign Ro into the cast for a while.
This is one of my favorite episodes. The scene with the captain is one of the best moments in any of the series. The moment that the capt realizes thatbhe's not going to win this one is gripping. It was extremely well acted by both actors too.

CHief O'Brien was definitely well played in "The Wounded" and I love the episode though I have not seen it in years.

I believe they added Ensign Ro with the intention of bringing her over to DS9. When Michelle Forbes decided she didn't want a regular TV roll they changed the character and ended up with Major Kira.

O'Brien and Maxwell did great together.

I thoght he and Data did alright together in Best of Both Worlds P2.

I didn't know that. I thought they wrote the character into DS9 because they liked Forbes and Ro so much, not the other way around.
