Sad news today, for anyone who remembers "Benny" from LA Law. He was so good in the role that I recall many people believed the actor himself was mentally disabled.
From the Washington Post:
Larry Drake, who earned back-to-back Emmy Awards for his sensitive portrayal of mentally challenged character Benny Stulwicz in “L.A. Law,” was found dead March 17 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 66.
His body was found by a friend, and the cause of death was not immediately known. The heavyset actor had suffered from health issues related to his weight, said Steven Siebert, Mr. Drake’s manager for 30 years.
Mr. Drake’s career spanned TV, film and stage, including playing a sadistic villain in the 1990 movie “Darkman,” directed by Sam Raimi. Mr. Drake earned Emmys for best supporting actor in a drama series in 1988 and 1989 for playing office worker Benny on “L.A. Law,” which aired on NBC from 1986 to 1994.
