If you want more diversity, add new characters. Don't mess with the classics.

DS9 proved that there doesn't have to be a ship- or that there does, given the immediate introduction of the Runabout and then, later, the Defiant.

However, I guess my point is that if you are going to have a ship in the show, have a new one, not a reboot- same as the other stuff in my list.

I agree. While I do want to see a new Enterprise in this new Picard show I don't main it to be the main ship or the one Picard usues. I am also wondering if we are getting to the point where will start seeing less warp travel. Between the long distance beaming in "Star Trek" 09 and what "Discovery" can do by just spinning and using it's fungus drive or even the old idea of Transwarp or some form of Stargate I can see Trek moving away from this.

One of the reasons I suggested the space ship idea with androids aboard and everyone lives on earth and accesses them is it opens up the idea of doing what "Stargate" was able to do and that is be both a planet based show and space travel show as well. I would love to be able to explore future earth yet also get to go out into space and do all that stuff as well.

But if you don't change anything in new iterations, aren't you just telling the same story over and over?

The idea is that even if you change the race and gender of a character your still telling the same story over and over because racial or gender change is just a superficial alteration. For a new look at something you have to have a more radical alteration like the new Battlestar Galatica is or I would also say the new "Lost in Space" is. Both had race and gender changes but also feel natural because you are really taking a whole new aproach to a old show

. Compare that lets say to the new "Ghostbusters" movie where you are basically just doing the old movie over only badly this time around. They kind of fail like how many of sequels have failed over the years where they just try and tell the first movie over again with minor changes while making sure to hit all the popular beats of the first film but trying to enhance them and them never being as good as they were in the first film. Kind of like the talking dog in "Men in Black" part II as one example. Not to mention the idea of just putting something in the same universe as the older thing just so you can bank on fan service and fans love for canon also tends to be a kind of weak attempt to make something new feel more relevant.

I would rather have seen a television reboot of Star Trek, Kirk's Enterprise with new faces settling into the ticks and foibles of the old characters, set after "Turnabout Intruder" chronologically, and up to the homecoming which we never saw in the lead up to "Star Trek : The Motion Picture"
Sure, there would have been comparisons, but actors like a challenge.
Chris Pine simply doesn't carry off the Kirk persona, and his co stars don't fare much better in their roles, that's why I can't take to JJ Trek.
Zachary Quinto excepted.

I like the Kelvin Universe but it's also why I think it's time to move beyond TOS unless you do a radical change. Not only would a reboot be trying to capture the old show you would basically be doing a reboot of a reboot. Look at Spock. WIth "DIscovery" we are now on are third guy of the same version of the same character. At some point you got to stop doing Spock or re-invent him. Which requires something much deeper than a gender or racial switch but then Spock still does all the old Spock tropes about repressed emotions and the pointy ears and the mind melds and so forth and so forth. Basically you might want to keep one feature about the character and drop everything else. With Starbuck the only thing they kepth was her being kind of a rogue. and being close to Apollo. She makes you completely forget DIrk Benedict. I feel the same way about the new Doctor Smith on "Lost in Space." That is when those kind of character changes work best IMO.

There's already a series on YouTube which does exactly that, called Star Trek Continues.
