CGI army men!!!

Lord of the Rings..the recent STAR WARS movies...300, and others, have had large CGI battles between large forces of CGI fighters..which one did it the best and which one sucked?

I remember an interview with Chuck Heston right after Phantom Menace came out. He was on the commitee that voted for FX awards for the Academy Awards. He was on LARRY KING I think, not sure, but he told Larry that the FX were getting so good that it was hard to tell what was real and wasn't real in that movie....I know the feeling!!!

LOTR gets my vote, and I haven't seen it but I think John Adams had some fantastic army action

Yeah...LOTR was pretty good...Did they have these FX all the way back in the day of BRAVEHEART? Or was the real people in those establishing shots?

I want to say that in Braveheart they may have done composite shots with a smaller number of people, but with big budget films like that you never know . . . they could have gotten that many extras :D

As each installment of "The Mummy" came out I just kept getting bored with the huge cgi armies that appear near the end of a movie.

I watch Lord of the Rings today, and while I can suspend my disbelief and enjoy the movies the same way I can a Ray Harryhausen adventure, I think the massive *snicker* CGI armies actually look pretty bad by more modern comparisons.
