Cell Phones in Trek...?

Given that we are already in 'the future'...has it been established if there are cell phones (or the like) in the further future of the Trek-verse?

I would think you would still have those around the world trying to get a hold of people (or trying to keep in contact) while they're in their hovercar, going to work, etc....

It may not be a cell phone, but something similar....

Yes, I'm asking the question for my fan-fic, but I don't believe the question has ever came up.

I could be wrong...:)

I'm sure there's a civilian version of the communicator badge, which has all the primary features of a cellphone. PADDs seem to have all the newfangled, non-phone features modern mobiles have, and almost definitely are capable of communications capacity themselves (which is why no one carries laptops in Trek). And they definitely make civilian-issue PADDs.

I definitely agree...(or at least something like a hand-communicator for the 22nd and 23rd century folks)...

Well that's an interesting question. Even in restaurants and bars, you never see someone poking away at a text message or being interrupted by an Alvin and the Chipmunks ringtone. Could it be that they have better things to do than constantly update their friends and loved ones with the minutae of their lives?

Cortical implants. :borg:

In our future, probably. In fact, independently grown biological implants based on DNA inherited from your parents.

But not in Star Trek's technophobic future, no. Closest thing they'll get is clothing that are essentially "wearable computers". At best, the user interface would be displayed on a pair of glasses with manipulation through hand gestures.
