Okay, these might be a little dumb, but, I'm a bit behind the times on cell phones. I've been an AT&T customer for about 6 years, and really haven't upgraded my phones much. Mrs. Alpinemaps and I have Motorola v3's, but they've been around for awhile, and it's time to upgrade.
Actually, my cell phone plan is about 4 or 5 years old, and while it served it's purpose at the time, it's definitely time to upgrade. I've been looking at the Pantech Duo, and think that's what I'm going to go with.
So, here's where it gets confusing to me. The Pantech Duo is a smartphone / PDA. I don't really care about the Internet functionality - I do want the ability to text message occasionally with it. I do love the idea of the PDA functionality - it would be nice to have my contacts and calendar on in my cell phone.
So, do I have to have a data plan to be able to use the PDA functions? Mrs. Alpinemaps really doesn't care about having the Internet on her phone. She just wants a phone, and likes the ability to text occasionally on the nicer QWERTY keyboard. She especially doesn't need the PDA functionality (although, it would be nice if we could sync up the phones to the same schedule so she'd have it handy, too).
Help!
