Celebrities deaths that upset you

In the How to feel old in 75 simple statements thread I admitted that I cried when I heard that Bon Scott had died, and Mutenroshi Admitted crying over Freddy Mercury's death.

I was also upset (but not to the point of tears) when I heard about Princess Diana's and Richard Biggs' deaths.

What celebrities/famous people's deaths have upset you the most.

The only time I will cry is when Sean Connery dies. He's my #1 <3

Other people, I feel bad that they pass on but I don't cry. Even when Hugh Jackman dies, I'll just feel bad but wont cry.

Freddie Mercury was the only celebrity that I have ever been genuinely upset at their death.

I just thought he was so amazing when I was a kid, I still get sad now when I think about what he might have done in the last 18 years.

The very most upsetting to me were:

Karen Carpenter, Johnny Carson, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Those were bone crushing losses. Especially Karen and Stevie who were so young. Carson seemed like a father figure in some ways. I saw him practically nightly for so much of my life - far, far more than my own father. And he was a giant.

There recent spate of deaths including David Carradine and Michael Jackson were very hard. I have for so long enjoyed their talent and it is incredibly difficult to believe they are truely gone.

Am I the only one who finds upheaval about celebrity deaths sort of annoying? Apart from the fact that the death of every minor 70s tv actor seems to be worthy of several concurrent threads in Misc and GTV&M, I find it rather undignified and impolite to express mourning over the deaths of people you didn't personally know--with exceptions of course, but they should be that: exceptions.

Stevie Ray Vaughan. I was driving back to college, listening to the radio, when the news of his death came on. I was floored.

Douglas Adams. It was so unexpected, and I had just met him the year before at a book signing.

John Lennon. I was in the 6th grade, and I remember lying in bed, listening to the radio---I couldn't fathom why someone would want to kill him. It was really shocking to me.

Some of those names were such a shock to me. You just never imagine that they would die, even though you know it will happen one day anyways, but we tend to look at some celebrities as immortal.

Even though you don't know a person personally, you still look up to them and feel a connection. Everyone has some sort of impact, whether it's looking up to them for inspiration or them being the one who made you laugh every night. You feel like you're losing a friend that you've never met.

I don't think crying over a celebrity's death is all that different from crying over a character's death in a movie.

If people are mourning, theya re mourning whether it is result of a death of someone they love, a pet or someone they admire but don't personally know.

I was reduced to tears when I saw pictures of the Asian Tsunami and of the Rwandan genocide. I shed tears over the loss of life in the Victorian Bushfires earlier this year. I was even upset when I learnt that Sam the Koala who had survived the bushfires had died recently.

Stevie Ray Vaughan. I was driving back to college, listening to the radio, when the news of his death came on. I was floored.

Douglas Adams. It was so unexpected, and I had just met him the year before at a book signing.

I wqas upset over Douglas Adams' death. On the first Towel Day in his homour I carried a towel around the city center. I was spotted by a towel bearer, a man considerable younger than me, who was also carrying a towel. He asked me if I was a Douglas Adams fan and I said yes. We decided to have a cup of coffeee togather and spent a very enjoyable hour discussing Douglas Adams.

I still have "Salmon of Doubt" unread on my bookshelf. I can't bring myself to read it because it is the last work by Douglas left for me to read.

I was slightly upset over Lennon's death but I was more of a Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr fan. I can't stand McCartney anymore but I still like Ringo.

DeForest Kelley. He was the first of the Big 7 to pass, and I felt shell-shocked when I read about it. I felt much the same way about George Carlin's death.

Since I cry very easy, I could fill this thread. But I do have a few celebrity deaths that really got to me.

First, like Ward Fowler, DeForest Kelly just about did me in. McCoy was my favorite TOS character and when he passed it felt like a very large piece of me left this planet with him. I still get upset about it.

I was also very upset when Majel Barrett Roddenberry past away. It shocked me how much I mourned her. I also felt the same way about Jack Lemmon and Estelle Getty.

I always get upset over the death of celebs I know, not just because they are Human Beings, but because they've entertained or inspired me in some way. But the one celebrity whose death hurt me the most was Arthur C Clarke. I started reading his work when I was about eight years old, and he was a huge inspiration to me. He taught me more about Humanity, Science and Writing than anybody else. He influenced my growth in so many overt and subtle ways that it would be impossible to quantify or measure how much I owe him. He was a great, kind, compassionate and ingenious giant and the world is diminished without him.

He would want you to read it. :)

Lennon, Cobain, and Hendrix upset me because of all the great music they still had to contribute (especially Hendrix and Cobain because I wanted to see how they would mature).

Les Paul's recent death affected me because of how vast his influence has been. Easily the biggest "celeb" death for me in recent years.

For me it would have to be Richard Wright, a member of Pink Floyd. With his passing in 2008 I will never have the chance to see the members of one of my favorite groups perform together again.

A second person would be John Lennon, he was one of the last people in the world I would expect to get shot to death. It was so senseless.

The death of Eddie Guerrero actually bummed me out for awhile. Funny because I was shocked over the death of Owen Hart and Chris Benoit, but not really bummed. Other than that I don't think I have had an artist yet whose work has actually meant something to me die yet. Maybe Syd Barrett. But I have a terrible recall so I am probably forgetting someone.

No Celebritie death has ever made me cry, and I doubt any ever will. Now have there been Celebritie deaths that have surprised me? yes!

Jim Henson's sudden death in 1990 really upset me...especially because it could have been prevented. :(

I was pretty upset when Rebecca Schaeffer was murdered (20 years ago last month)- I wasn't a big fan of hers, but the way it happened, how easily that crazy stalker got her address and a gun, was horrible.

I remember being pretty upset about John Lennon's murder, too. I was a little kid at the time. I really didn't understand! I understood death, but not murder.
