News CBS building their own studio for Star Trek

Why don't they just buy Axanar's studio? :shifty:
Because it was NEVER finished/approved for use as a studio by the city/county it resides, in any way shape or form? [Plus they probably want people who KNOW what their doing when designing/creating an actual studio, and not some fan who believes by watching some professional film one 20 minute featurette that he KNOWS everything involved in actual studio design and feature production ;)

Yeah...
EGO is a terrible thing to waste and even worse to let it be your motivation for doing anything.

I've been trying to find the specific location in Mississauga, but haven't been able to. Does anyone have anything a little more precise than just "Mississauga"?

I would imagine that at the moment it's probably just an empty old warehouse.
Not sure if They have actually started building anything yet.
It does say that it is 18 miles from downtown Toronto.

Why build a new studio when you can just create CGI sets and have actors film their stuff in front of bluescreens?

I think it would be fine for one time use locations, but it wouldn't be cost effective to do it convincingly for areas we see all the time. Most of the time it's better to use CGI and greenscreen to augment traditional sets rather than replace them.

I don't think the technology is there yet for it to be truly seamless for a TV series. I watched The Terror, which is show mostly on greenscreen, and you can kinda tell it's not real when you look close, or by how static it is. Heck, even Black Panther looked awful in places, because Wakanda is entirely CGI.

If CBS is planning 5 different Star Trek series, and perhaps even to get the movie rights back from Paramount, they would take up a lot of studio space so it's better to just build a studio. I remember reading Pinewood lost a few productions because of how big Discovery is, it's taking up over half the studio space, so this is very much needed. During any off-periods they can then just rent the space out to other production companies, but they're planning of filming more series and movies in the GTA and Ontario, so it'll probably just stay a CBS studio.

The studio for Star Trek is being built underground by a crew of 10 German construction workers and their foreman. It was supposed to be a top-secret type of secret but the foreman got drunk and you know what they say about loose lips. An enforcer warned the foreman not to do it again, but the cat's out of the bag now for us to discuss.

Like this post if you get it. ;)

One day, the Star Trek coming out of this studio will be more than 99% pure. High-grade. A former chemistry teacher will be in charge of it and It'll sell like hotcakes.
