"Catspaw" Remastered

The remastered version of Catspaw is airing this weekend. It will be interesting to see what they do with the episode. No offense, but that was one of the worst TOS episodes ever...

I believe the episode has aired once already, although I haven't watched it. The episode featured a fun new establishing shot of Sylvia's castle.

Just aired here in Roanoke on our FOX station. Not much was changed(not to mention a few things that SHOULD have been)but the new CGI castle shot as well as the elimination of the painfully visible black threads on the alien Sylvia and Korob puppets at the end were very nice touches and made the episode a little less cheesy and sucky.

I know it's too late now but I think when they remastered this ep they should've replaced the witches with T'Bonz (or T'Boo at the moment).

Yep, sometimes I like to live VERY damgerously, heh.

Robert (Soon to be known as "Toast".)

Kirk's disgust at the end was really that he made out with a pipe cleaner puppet.

Why didn't he shoot Sylvia with the phaser the moment he grabbed it. Sometime it is better to shoot first.

Then the episode would be over sooner. Is that a bad thing?

I still wish the skeleton in the dungeon had a tattered, ENTERPRISE era Starfleet uniform on.

Now that would have been good. I can't begin to imagine the firestorm that would have ignited.

You know some Trekkers and TOSsers. Change one little thing and they go apeshit. They're the ones peppering the Net with "Remastered TREK is the work of the devil" posts.

Was anyone else having problems with the audio? With this and "The Gamesters of Triskelion" the previous week, the actors' voices and soundtrack seem to be very muffled and I have to turn up the volume on my TV to better hear it. They seem to be focusing too much on the visual effects that they're beginning to ignore the sound. Not only should they be remastering the special FX, but they should at least use some advanced digital stereo for these episodes.

That may also be a local-station issue. I remember that there were a number of people experiencing similar problems while ENT was airing -- people in some markets (especially smaller ones) were getting muffled audio or low sound levels while others elsewhere got nice, clean sound.

Also, I'm pretty sure the audio is getting a makeover, as well. It wouldn't do to put out spiffy new HD sets with crappy sound, would it? Again, it may be your local station or perhaps your cable service provider; it might not hurt to give them a call or shoot them an e-mail about it.

I haven't been able to watch it remastered. Every time it's on my local affillate shows infomercials. I don't know if they just don't have the episode or for some reason they just won't show it. Thinking about calling and asking what's up.

The main 'fix' that they failed to do was the 3 witches....

They were dressed in all-black with turtleneck sweaters to give the illusion that they were floating bodyless heads....
Which is why they are kind of bobbing and floating as they speak.

But, they overlit the set and it was clear they were just actors dressed in all black outfits.....

I wish they had known this at the remaster project and 'blacked out' their bodies so it DID appear they were decapitated heads.

Also, I feel they severly overlit many of the scenes in the castle. It was like in some scenes they just forgot it was supposed to be a spooky halloween episode and just lit the corridors in standard lighting!!! :scream:

Call your station and see if they don't air it after midnight in a late-night slot. They used to air ENTERPRISE reruns and TOS Remastered late on Saturday nights until they found better and more popular time slots in the afternoons. Maybe they hide TOS Remastered in a post-midnight slot in your area because they figure most people aren't going to care anyways.

Then again, there persist in being television stations owned by people who would refuse to air a program, simply because it contains portrayals of witches or magic to which "decent people" shouldn't be exposed.

Could be. I hope not for the sake of all the Trekkers in your area...but some people DO consider horror and sci-fi to be "unclean" and anti-religious. I used to think most of those people found lives or died off long ago, but I was wrong.
