Catching up on DS9 Relaunch

Soooooooooooooo, after not having read Star Trek (or much of anything) for the last four or five years I recently found myself reading Worlds of Deep Space Nine Volume 2 - and only because it seemed to be the only book I could find for my new Kobo at the time that I actually wanted to read.

I forgot how much I enjoyed these books! I had originally read all of the Relaunch up to and including the first half of the first Worlds book. I've pretty much forgotten everything, so I will go back and read it all I think...

However, I have read all of Volume 2 this week, and am just about to finish reading the second half of Volume 3. I believe that WARPATH is next?

It seems that something happened to DS9 Relaunch and not much happened in the last five years? Granted I don't yet know what happens in Warpath... but are there more books after this?

There are four books listed on the Wikipedia page - but do any of these carry on the story of Deep Space Nine? And I'm not really interested in the mirror universe...

Are there any other DS9 books that have come out that are good? I haven't read the Terok Nor books... are they good?

After WoDS9 come Warpath, Fearful Symmetry, and The Soul Key, which are the direct continuations of the narrative, but which involve the Mirror Universe to a significant degree. After that, due to a change in editors, there's a 5-year jump in the storyline, with the next DS9-related books being two of the Typhon Pact installments, Rough Beasts of Empire and Zero Sum Game (that's their chronological order, though they were published the other way around).

^What she (?) said. The Terok Nor books are pretty good, and that add alot of background stuff from the post-finale DS9 books. The first one is absoultely amazing, it's one of my favorite books, but the second two take a couple steps down in quality. They're still good, they just don't quite reach the same level as the first one.

The mirror universe thread of the relaunch does have to do with the DS9 characters though. Vaughn, Kira, Taran'atar, Sisko, etc. all have lots to do with those stories.

Thanks for that guys, I appreciate it! I have finished Warpath and have started reading Fearful Symmetry and I have The Soul Key, plus the two Typhon Pact books downloaded and ready to read!

After having read Warpath I can understand now how the Mirror Universe is now integral to the continuation of the DS9 story, HOWEVER (and I haven't read much into Fearful Symmetry, so there may be good explanations) I'm really disappointed at having silly Mirror Universe stuff being the cause of the events that happened to Bajor in Fragments and Omens and especially for Taran'atar's rogue behaviour at the end of the Domion piece and in Warpath.

It would have been so much more interesting for Taran'atar to be motivated by him questioning himself as an individual and his gods, and his gods denouncement of their godhood. Rather than him being controlled by someone from the Mirror Universe?

I'm just disappointed! I had enjoyed pretty much everything that had been done with DS9 in the novels up until this point. But I shall keep reading!

Definitely will try the Terok Nor books once I'm done, though.

I never did get the Terok Nor trilogy. That situation must be remedied.

(And I'm still missing A Stitch in Time and The Lives of Dax!)

Just to warn you, the Typhon Pact books are more of a continuation of the post-Nemesis/Destiny storyline than the post-finale DS9 books. So there are quite a few huge, universe changing events before them.

i just got the third Typhoon Pact book...why am I so nervious about how this is going to go..probably because of how bad the DS9 relaunch has been recently since it meandered into the mirror universe, but I hope this undoes the damage.

I thought the first book in the Terok Nor trilogy was a freaking masterpiece. The other two were good, it's just they had stiff competition.

Another good DS9R related book that doesn't like it's been mentioned is The Never Ending Sacrifice. Takes place from the second season episode "Cardassians" to I believe some point in the relaunch but I don't remember exactly when it ends. It concerns from Rugal and his experiences on Cardassia. Another great book.

^ The Never Ending Sacrifice ends in 2378, a year after the events of The Soul Key. And I agree it's outstanding. :techman:
