I forget who said TOS was like "Catching lightning in a bottle, they thought it couldn't be done twice, but then they caught it for a second time with TNG"

Do you think there's any chance of catching lightning in a bottle for a third time? Especially with Gene and other important staff gone.

TNG didn't really catch lightning in a bottle. It took a LONG time to generate that spark and is likely more a result of Michael Piller than Roddenberry by that point. Other producers have done it too. Lost immediately comes to mind as a show that really hit the ground running. There is no reason to think another producer can't pull off. Is it a guarantee, no of course not, but nothing in TV ever is.

With Alex Kurtzman, I'm not sure.

Best-case, we expect a show of the same quality as Fringe.

^ Which, in my brain, started out okay, got awesome and then turned terrible in its final season. Just like a lot of Star Trek. :p

They already did, with DS9. So fourth time? Can't say I'm optimistic, although a man can hope.
