Aw, man. I loved her in Spearhead From Space. Y'know, before they put a wig on her and made her an idiot.
Damn. I've seen all her stories except Ambassadors of Death (only because that hasn't yet been released on DVD). She was a good companion. RIP. So who is left out of the main actors from the Pertwee era, anyway? I can only think of three, Katy Manning, Richard Franklin and John Levene.
I haven't seen a lot of stories with Liz -- actually, I think Spearhead is the only one -- but I did like her in that. On a side note, I thought the woman who told the Doctor that the Brigadier had died in last season's finale was Caroline John. I saw a resemblance there and thought it was fitting that she was there to announce the passing of the Brig. Of course, it turned out it wasn't her...
Not may favourite companion, but she was fun and sassy and could keep up with the Doctor. A shame, a real shame.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Liz Shaw other than Inferno but it's very sad to lose yet another companion in such little time. And how to have just returned from seeing Prometheus for the second time (which features a character named Dr. Elizabeth Shaw). Rest in peace, Caroline.
Easily my favorite early companion, the only one who was the Doctor's equal. She may have only appeared for one year, but man, it was a great year. RIP, Ms. John, and condolances to her husband Geoffrey Beevers.
There was also Dodo. That's three we've lost in the last year. I'm seriously hoping Moffat thinks long and hard about this, then brings every living actor who played a companion, Doctor, or Master, back ... even if it's just for a cameo, but to let them play their famous character one last time for the huge 50th anniversary ... before it's too late.
^I've been meaning to do a proper run through the Jon Pertwee years for a while now. This may accelerate my plans. I also recently picked up a copy of her semi-professional spin-off series P.R.O.B.E. I agree that Moffat needs to think harder about bringing back more old companions while we still have time. Ian, Susan, Jamie, & Zoe are at the top of my list. Yeah. I picked up on that too.
Maybe this can tie into my pet theory that God recruited Barry Letts to create the best Jon Pertwee story ever! John, Courtney, & Sladen are all just being recruited to Heaven on an as-needed basis.
