Long-time NPR newscaster and Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! scorekeeper Carl Kassel died today due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Even though he was already retired from Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! and radio at large, this is a great and terrible loss for the world of radio. The linked article is a great write-up of his life and includes some hilarious examples of his voicemail messages.

Farewell to a legend! Rest in peace, Carl. Thank you for all of the memories.

Aw, sad to hear it. I can only guess how many thousands of mornings I woke to his voice reading the NPR newscast. He always did a great job.

Damn... He was one of the best... Had the pleasure of speaking with him once back when I was doing news for our NPR affiliate in Portales. Just a really kind man and had a one of a kind voice. Love him on Wait, Wait...

R.I.P. :(

Definitely. Loved him on 'Wait, Wait' over the years. He had a really great sense of humor too. RIP Mr. Kassel and thanks.

I heard the tribute to him on NPR last night. He was a supremely professional newscaster, but it was nice to see his fun side on Wait, Wait... He'll be sorely missed.
