Carina Class Explorer

for those who haven't clicked through to the thread on SFM, here's the latest

Okay, got two questions...

1) How would you place the forward weapons systems om the ship if you approved this separation concept?

2) Where does the dorsal Reigistry marking go?

I haven't decided if I'll model this, but if I do (and I probably will) I'd like to know how that would work.

Also...MOAR!

1 - Melak says he wasn't seriously considering the separation, and did this just to tidy things up while modeling, and to show the neck without the saucer in the way, but if the separation was going to happen I would put the weapons on the top side so as to preserve functionality with the saucer still in place. Since it's an explorer it's not going to have much of a weapons system anyway.

2 - For the registry I was thinking of putting it on the sides of the spine similar to the Saber, but toward the front

I think that the idea of saucer separation seems like a good idea. I personally think that the successor of the Nebula class should have it (and late run Nebulas too, since the Galaxy class has it).

If all else fails, I'll probably go ahead with my own idea of a replacement for the Nebula class, and give that hull separation, though it will probably end up being more like a successor to the Carina class as well. Then again, I'll probably give a crack at sketching my idea of a tactical cruiser anyways, once I'm done finishing and uploading most of my backlog of sketches.

Yeah, I have my own thread, though admittedly, not much is there, yet. I like to refine my sketches, darkening the important line and sketches, use up any empty space with any new ideas I have for the design on a given piece of paper, etc.

For reference, I've had these three threads:
http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=143301
http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=141520
http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=137108

The problem has been finding enough time to finish my many designs, especially the ones that have spanned over more than one sheet of paper, which I would rather show all at once (so it will be easier to explain their progression; some have already changed over time)

But yeah, you'll get to see them all eventually; it is just a matter of time.:D
