Captain's Yacht

Long Syntax

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I remember viewing the TNG Technical manual years ago and always wished the captain's yacht would have actually been used in an episode.

It's a predominant exterior feature of the ship that was never explored and I really think it would have been interesting to have a practical use for it.

At the very least Jean-Luc could have packed a few bottles of champagne and taken a few alien babes on to Risa

Would have taken a few years, but at least at that point he could have taken them on a ride in his dune buggy.

If you know what I mean.

^How do you know?

Is there a canon reference to its warp capability?

Wasn't referring to the speed of the ship, sorry. Just a badly-written Nemesis reference which you should probably be glad you weren't reminded of. :D

The tradition of the Captain's Yacht originated in the days of James Kirk, who'd offer to show female Enterprise visitors the Captain's Dinghy.

^ That Jim Kirk you're referring to there, it would have been the Captain's Long Boat.

If there's a captain's yacht, then there should be a Captain's Yacht Club, yes?

You know, as ridiculous as it sounds...I actually quite like the thought of a bunch of Captains racing each other and generally faffing about in their Yachts every so often. It could be presented as a fun Academy tradition at graduation time or something in a new series.

Not as predominant as the Main Shuttle Bay and we only got one oblique glimpse of it in one episode- it you did not know the Captains yacht was there from the off screen call outs it would just be considered a bit of greebly.
It would have been nice to have it seen as intended- a diplomatic transport but they never went through the expense of building it for a story. Probert designed the receiving 'socket' as well but that only appeared in one of the calendars.

Set-wise it really wouldn't have been a big deal - the TNG-TM shows the cockpit as basically a redress of the officer living quarters. It really would have added some extra depth to the functionality of the E-D.

I quite like the idea of a party ship! I envision a disco ball hanging down in the interior and a couple of Jacuzzis :guffaw:

Although I have never been a fan of the Galaxy Class or it's Yacht, it would have been great to have seen it used. I LOVED seeing the Yacht launch in Insurrection.

I also would have loved to see the Aeroshuttle on Voyager be used instead of the Delta Flyer. But that;'s just my love of Most of the ship Yachts :)

There was a low res clip showing the Aeroshuttle launching and flying down towards a planet- IIRC it was some test footage and never developed past that but it did look cool...
