Captain Pike (possible spoilage)

Balrog

Commodore

I have been thinking about this new movie and all of the specualtion about it be an "alternate timeline", but will somehow still adhere to canon according to the writers and it occurred to me: What if the "big picture" events of the Trek timeline continue to unfold as they should even though the details might be different. It's kind of like "City on the Edge of Forever" in that Edith Keeler did ultimately die in a street accident, although not exactly the way it initially happened due to McCoy, Kirk and Spock's voyage back in time.

I've been thinking that perhaps this is what will ultimately happen to Pike as well. We know Pike in the original timeline was crippled by delta rays while saving cadets aboard a J-class starship on a training voyage. In this "altered" timeline, this no longer seems to be the case.

Maybe Pike is a Fleet Captain when the new cadets, including Kirk, McCoy, et al, board Enterprise. And maybe Pike does not die in this movie, but instead becomes incapacitated by delta rays while saving part of his cadet crew when Enterprise is initially attacked by Nero.

Thoughts? Will we see a burned, beeping Captain Pike at the end of this movie?

I'm not sure you can say that with any certainty.

In the timeline established during TOS, Pike's exposure to delta rays seemed to have occurred only a short time before "The Menagerie" took place, because Kirk had not yet heard the news about Pike's accident. That would almost certainly place the accident during the time of Kirk's command of Enterprise and, presumably, during the five-year mission encompassing the series, while the events involving Pike which are to be shown in the movie take place at some time well before, at a time when Pike still commands the Enterprise and Kirk has yet to reach captain's rank.

I'm betting Pike isn't beeping at the end.

i wouldnt be really suprised if pike is seriously injured (but not by the means in the post)
though i agree with m'sharak that pikes injuries seem to have been pretty recent.
certainly after he promoted out from being captain of enterprise.

though i also believe at that point in the film neither kirk nor bones are still cadets.

Pike becoming crippled would make for some good drama so I doubt it's off the table. They'll be saving it for a later date should there be sequels.
