I'm sure this has already been discussed here at one time or another (probably every aspect of Trek has been discussed here at one time or another) but what the hell -
I recently took a trip to Disney World and I saw at Epcot they had resurrected the Michael Jackson 3D short "Captain Eo", which I saw originally about 30 years ago, when it was first released. I stopped in to see it again, as I didn't recall much of it after so much time.
The film was made about 2 or 3 years before TNG premiered, and about 3 or 4 years before the Borg were introduced on TNG.
The thing that struck me was that there are scenes and characters in EO that appear to have been totally ripped off to create the Borg on TNG - the alcoves, the cyborg creatures, even the Borg queen set up, are there!
My question is did Trek share any production or set designers with EO? I know Lucas and Coppola made EO, so I'm sure its possible that some designers could have worked on both. I've done some research and tried to match names but came up empty, which would lead to one conclusion - Trek ripped off Captain EO.
Did anyone else ever notice this? And is anyone aware if any designers worked on both projects? Just curious.
PS - it was kind of sad watching Michael Jackson in the film, dancing and being so full of life, knowing how his life ended.
