Captain EO- Inspiration for the Borg?

I just got back from Walt Disney World and we went to Epcot and saw the old "Captain EO" 3D show that Disney recently resurrected and I was struck by the similarity of (for anybody who has seen it and still remembers it) the evil "Supreme Leader" and her minions- who looked VERY Borg-like and the SL was suspended from the ceiling much like the Borg Queen. Did anybody who has seen the show recently agree?:borg:

Yes! I went to the one in Paris and thought the same, I was surprised now good it looked considering its age.

I was excited to hear that Disney was going to re-release it and we had a trip to Disney planned for this past month and we made darn sure to be able to catch it. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid but amazingly I still remembered most of it. A great piece of 80's MJ nostalgia! My wife even has the plush of the little fuzzball flying creature.:bolian: I didn't know that George Lucas helped direct it as well. It has the distinction of being the only known Disney attraction to replace the attraction that replaced it ("Honey, I shrunk the Audience" took its place in 1997 and was shelved when they re-released Captain EO)

Lol, same story here, I had never seen it but my husband had when he was young and had the fuzzy flying creature toy too! I was amazed that it was made in the 80's. The music was great, I might see if I can find it....

I read somewhere that one of the songs was originally written and performed by Jackson 5 ("Change The World"?) and one of them ("Another Part of Me") is on MJ's "Bad" album. The Jackson 5 song was apparently never recorded by MJ solo for an album, just for the movie.

I've seen Captain EO as well and I was quite amazed at how much the negative characters resemble the Borg. Or perhaps it's the other way around?

one of them ("Another Part of Me") is on MJ's "Bad" album.

Indeed. It's the sixth track of the album.

It's also interesting to note that there's a "Making of" piece for Captain EO which is hosted by Whoopi Goldberg. A nice coincidence there.

Does the ship still crash through the screen?

Wow! Turns out there are a LOT of wierd coincidences between Captain EO and the Borg on Star Trek: TNG/VOY
