Capt Sulu series, JJ-style!

I posted this in the Trek XI forum, but I think it belongs here as well.

Let's not let John Cho get screwed by TBTB the way George Takei did. We need to make it known that when this current incarnation of Trek films starts to wind down, nuSulu needs to take command of the nuEnterprise-B, and get the JJ-verse version of the spin off that George always wanted.

Who's with me?

I'm not joking.

This current film series isn't going to last forever. And Sulu kind of is the logical choice for a spin-off captain. While Takei may have lacked the chops to headline a major film or television series , Cho has already established something of a track record as Hollywood lead player, such as in the "Harold and Kumar" franchise (the third installment of which "A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas" is due out for Christmas of 2010.).

Mmm, I dunno. Cho doesn't seem to have the screen presence to take over the lead. When the current movie series winds down, the right thing to do is get Trek back on TV, where it belongs, with a new crew but still in the 23rd C, and introduced in the movies.

Well, maybe. I would like to see it on TV again. I just honestly dont see JJ running Trek for 12 or 15 or 20+ years as with GR or Berman. We might just get the 3 movies and thats it. And if someone else comes in they may want to do what they want to do, which could include ignoring the movies or going an altogether different route.

I certainly would like to see Trek be more like the Law and Order franchise where the casts are completely rotated out after a certain time. Get promotions, go on to other assignments, etc. Certainly Sulu moving on and getting a command could be interesting. I absolutely do not want one crew together for decades.

I would be all for that. It appears they've already increased the size pf his role from the original within the movie. He gets two comedic moments ("Is the parking break on?" and "Fencing.") while also getting at least two heroic bits as well (the drill platform and maneuvering the Enterprise out of Titan's atmosphere) (you could also count coming to Spock's rescue during the climax since he was in command of the Enterpised when she warped in guns blazing).

sulu series seems like a good idea for tv, but i dont think it could hold its own on the silverscreen, and if it was on tv maybe sumone like RUFIOOOOOOOOOOas the captain
