Can U Buy a Kindle eBook to Read on Your PC If You Don't Own a Kindle?

I have to buy a book for school that is really expensive. I saw that I can pay half as much if I buy a Kindle eBook. Can you buy a Kindle eBook to read on your PC if you don't actually own a Kindle?

Yes, I do it all the time on my netbook. You get the kindle program for free at Amazon then buy the books on the site.

I have downloaded the eReader program. Can anyone recommend some free or cheap (under $2.99) books that I might enjoy reading on the computer - maybe short stories, poetry etc

The Complete Mark Twain is $2.99. The Complete Oscar Wilde is $1.00. The Collected Works of William Butler Yeats (Halcyon Classics) is $1.99. Works of Robert Frost(150+) is $2.39.

Hope these help.

Thanks for the suggestions. They are a little bit dearer for Australians. The Complete Oscar Wilde is $3, the Yeats one is $3.99 and the Robert Frost one doesn't seem to be available for Australians.

After fiddling around with the Kindle for PC I have decided to only download free books onto it. I will leave the other books until I buy a Kindle next year.

I am quite happy with the free books I have downloaded because they include several works by or about various Australian explorers, and well as Welsh Myths and Popular Tales from the Norse.
