Can Nichelle Nichold do the computer voice ?

Could Nichelle Nichols voice the computer voice in the next movie ? Has she been in any star trek since star trek 6?

She was offered a role in "Flashback", the VOY episode with Sulu and Rand. She was to have appeared on Sulu's viewscreen, giving him information about Chang and Gorkon (the scene is in the novelization of the episode), but nichelle decided she wanted Uhura to "beam over" and deliver the news in person. The writers refused to change the scene, because they thought it was unlikely Uhura could do so safely at that time of the events of ST VI, so she turned down the role.

Nichelle did the computer voice a few times in TAS, but it was hardly the same as Majel!

Well there may not be much computer voices, in TOS the only time you heard a computer was when Spock made an inquiry of Konky and it replied. I t was very mechanical and had this sort of tickertape sound effect behind it, albeit only sometimes. TNG really smoothed out the computer voice and made it sound like Nurse Chapel ;)

While the writers were correct to not change the scene, I can't help by wonder why they paid attention to THAT detail, and ignored the fact that Tuvok's friend Dmitri Valtane was alive and well at the end of Star Trek VI having NOT died beforehand as the episode "Flashback" implied. :p

Don't forget about the "sultry" smooth-sounding computer voice used in TOS Tomorrow is Yesterday (which I believe was voiced by M. Barrett)

In the case of the proposed scene rewrite, that sounds a lot more like an agent trying to strongarm the show producers and getting told to go fuck him/herself than any ego trip on Nichelle Nichols' part. She may not even have known about it until it was over and done.

The Valtane thing? Maybe someone had a  vision of Internerds for years afterward arguing about what it all meant; I know I've seen more than a few attempts at rationalizing that apparent discrepancy and a couple of them weren't bad.

"Computed... dear."

To be even more nitpicky: Why would an Ensign share his personal quarters with a Senior officer. :)

Nichelle herself has told the story at conventions. She wanted to play opposite George and Grace Lee one more time, not just play to a camera in another room.

The Valtane thing? ... I know I've seen more than a few attempts at rationalizing that apparent discrepancy and a couple of them weren't bad.

The simplest is that only one of the Valtane twins survived the episode.

Strange they couldn't find some way to mention that AT ALL in the episode though. :p Ah well, ancient history.

Would rather that someone nearing their "later years" weren't used for a series relaunch (which includes Nimoy, btw, though I hope I'm wrong on that one.))

It would be nice, but I doubt it, as we would have heard about it. Does anyone know who did the male computer voice in Mirror, Mirror? That would be cool to get that guy to do it! I don't think it was James Doohan, who did a number of voices for TOS, like the M-5 computer. However, I'm sure they got someone new to do the voice. -- RR

According to Memory Alpha, the ISS Enterprise computer was voiced by John Winston.

Thanks, M'Sharak! Never would have guessed. That leaves him out, then, most likely! -- RR
