Can everyone agree now that this is indeed a REBOOT?

Do you think the new trek is a Reboot?

I say just plug it into the existing continuity, rationalize away or disregard the inconsistencies and enjoy. "Suspension of disbelief," anyone?

Which is a long-winded way of adding my voice to the "who cares?" school.

I would definitely agree that its a reboot. It begs the question of whether or not Older Spock will act differently as well. If its a reboot then it most likely won't be the Spock we know going back to his past, It'll be the rebooted older Spock going back to his own past, even though its still Nimoy playing the role.

No.

Nero is presumably from the late 24th or early 25th century. Whether he's trying to prevent unification, found time travel tech and just decided to implement Shinzon's plan at an earlier date, or is part of the temperal cold war from Enterprise, I don't know. Whatever the reasoning, he uses his ship to make changes to the time line.

Older Spock is from the same unaltered timeline as Nero. Its the Spock we know. TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and the movies happened exactly as we saw them. Our Spock is trying to guide the versions of his old shipmates from the altered timeline to defeat Nero.

OMG, if they so much as waste breath mentioning any one of those three crappy stories, I will cry. (Not really, but I will definitely sigh heavily in disgust.)

I don't think it's INTENDED to be a reboot based on Nimoy being involved in a major role and comments to the contrary(such as leaked script teasers about Simon Pegg's Scotty briefly mentioning Jonathan Archer and his pet beagle Porthos from ENT at some point in the movie), but visually it sure as hell looks like it.

I will cough uncomfortably and then alter my body language to look as little like a Star Trek fan as possible.

I'll then mumble "Fuckin' Star Wars" as I leave the theater at the end of the movie, to distance myself from it all.

There's already one or two somewhat reliable spoilers and sources that say that the script makes passing mention of Jonathan Archer and his beagle Porthos. Something Scotty says in the movie about a transporter accident or problem and *possibly* poor Porthos having perished in a post-2161/ENT transport accident.

If that's true I will laugh uproariously while scanning for ENT fans in the audience, who of course will be revealed by pulling out their hankies. But since it will not directly reference the future war or whatever the hell that lame storyline was, I will not sigh heavily in disgust.

Further predictions of my in-movie reactions are available, if desired. You never know boys, there just may be something in the movie that will make me jump up and whip my shirt off...

Hardly. For those of us who liked the show, the mention here further embeds it into the god-blessed "canon" that causes such heartburn for so many OCD cases.

I mean, for that itsy-bitsy validation/irritation I'm cool with them mentioning that Hoshi Yar or whatever her name was accidentally disemboweled herself with a sword while cutting Trip Tucker's head off.

Not all of us can suck in our guts far enough to fake that.

Since old Spock is in it I don't think it's meant to be a reboot. It's more like the beginning of a tangent timeline.

I don't really care if it's a reboot, whatever it takes to make a good film. But based on some of the things I've been seeing... Uh oh.

I really want the trailer to alleviate some of my fears.

:techman::lol:I now need to know two things. One--where do you plan to see the film.
Two--do you plan to see it opening night.

;)

I think it's a reboot that might have some things in common with the pre-reboot.
