Calming SFX from international airports, star ports, cargo bays, hangars

Doctor Tiki

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Lately, I got obsessed by ambient background sound and radio chatter running on my laptop all day long. It's perplexingly pleasing. Anyone else?

I mostly listen to:
  • real: international airports
  • sci fi: star ports, dry docks, cargo bays, hangars
First of all, I don't listen to whispers, cracking and clicking like some people do. Secondly, it's not called advanced microwave scanning radiometer (AMSR), but autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR).

I have no idea whether this what I get, but I find airports and space station sounds fascinating. The airport announcers in Japan are especially interesting, because they talk Chinese, English and Japanese. Even though it's everyday now, it feels futuristic.

I can read books this way.

excellent --- yeah reading is great too.. but these airports ASMR things is something I will look into do you have links..? I make music.. --- so some of the music is just random blips in a field of drone.. it is what I have been doing for a moment.. mmmm well Let me see if I can pull up one recent thing that I did long ago on tape and now have digitized this tape.. ---OK here is the video something I did in 2002== I have since worked thru a lot like this-

Let me first say, ST Picard's scene that shows the Romulan ship entering a station got me thinking.

Similar 1-hour soundscapes exist, like this one. The first minute suffices to give an impression of the rest:

On the Star Trek side of things, many 2013-ish YouTube videos are titled "Star Trek XXX ambience" where XXX might be "cargo bay" or "bridge" or "engine room". An example, below. There are newer Star Trek Online videos, too. There even is an Orville version of it.

Inside airports, these I found today and was very happy about them. They put quite a lot of effort into stereo recordings. You'll notice when a trolley passes your right ear, then left.

Again in the sci-fi world, people seem to stumble upon spots in Elite: Dangerous where they hang out simply for the sounds. (video search link)

Since I was a radio operator, I can actually enjoy actual air traffic control (ATC) chatter and aircraft carrier comms. The language, however, is trained, specialized and I haven't got passed the point where I understand them well enough. (search link)

There's a genre called Space Ambient, some of the most beautiful tracks I know come from this genre.
Aleks Michalski - Aeternum II

Yes Eno coined the word ambient in 1980. With the four ambient titled albums and others like them, but I have a real lot of things he did that are not ambient say the four solo albums after he left Roxy music.. the "after the heat" albums have both ambient and non ambient stuff..
I have been upset at heavily beated ambient labeled music.. It just is not the intended way of ambient IMO.. or New age music that claims ambient as well. I have a distaste for new age commercialized sounds. Since say 1990 and on..

I think, you track was on my playlist earlier this morning. It seems to work, wasn't distrcating or weird.

thanks so much for the listen .. my stuff doesn't get many views and listens but yeah I like what I do and for me that is all that matters I hear the mistakes. If I call them that and I do try to decrease these things .. with each recording---

I reworked this one piece like two new times.. and such this is the third time I reworked it in this link.. I posted it in my music group where we listen to each other's works --- so it has a few listens and a comment already---

Well, if you copy the dress and visual look from the other videomakers and musicians, you might get more clicks and views. I've once seen a weird experiment: a musician di a remix of a famous video-game-music piece for a video-game-music community site, a place only frequented by music fans. The song got views, of course, but the video-game publisher hosted the song on their own channel—-and got gazillion more views: still, same artist, same song piece, but different channels. Might give you a clue. Why not dress (name, picture, keywords) your videos and songs like the videos above. If you already know that people like me are into this, you're probably looking for channels and listeners that look for videos like yours.

Something I put on in the background to calm my nerves..
