Cadet training cruises...when?

Curious question, I tried looking around on Memory Alpha for a hint or an all out answer, and found none. When is it, that one thinks a Cadet may go on a training cruise? In terms of their training, and what not.

From TNG I gained the impression that it happens during their equivalent of summer break. Much as our ROTC students serve during their summer breaks. When I was in college our career internships were after Junior (3rd) year.

I agree with Sector 7 that it would probably happen between the cadet's third and fourth year at the Academy. when I was in the Army, we would get stuck with...um, have the privlege of hosting cadets from West Point as they spent the summer with our unit for training.

Well, I just watched DS9's 'Ascent' and it features Nog coming back to DS9 for his 'sophomore year field study' (and Sisko mentions his at SB 137).

Cadets are sent for various forms of training during the summers after their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years with the most extensive coming after the 3rd.
