Cabin in the Woods First Image Released!

The movie did have attention before MGM screwed around with it...then went into bankruptcy. It had attention based on the fact that it was a Joss Whedon project. It was complete and ready for release for Jan 2010 but then that is when they ordered the 3D conversion done and it just got more and more messier from there.

Yeah, but attention then doesn't sell tickets now. And frankly, a lot of projects that get banged around as much as this one has fall through the cracks when it's time to market them because there are no executives involved by the end who feel invested in them. "Spend money and time on the project I fought to greenlight, or give it to the one some guy at some other studio five years ago purchased? Hmm..."

The other thing in it's favor, of course, is Whedon's current leadership of another big movie project. "From the director of Avengers" may have its own uses.

^ Good points. I think Joss has been quoted as joking that he was hoping Cabin to really launch Chris Hemsworth into stardom but then the delays happened and he was cast in "Thor" and the rest is history. I think this was Chris's first project straight after "Star Trek" that is how long ago this was filmed lol.

Did I miss the release date in the link?

I can get behind the studio wanting to use "From the director of The Avengers" in it's marketing. However, that means a post May '12 release.

Topher!! LOL
I wonder if he filmed this after Dollhouse S2 wrapped up? Or between S1 & S2, Joss is very loyal to his actors when he can be.

There is no release date yet. I assume they're trying to figure that out right now. Filming was from March through May 2009 and done in Vancouver. I made a mistake, it was originally slated for release on Feb 5, 2010. It was first pushed back to Jan 2011 after MGM ordered the 3D conversion. I would guess they'd be looking for an October release right now. It's possible it could go head to head with "Paranormal Activity 3".

Well. Finally.

I still want to know if the people who made this movie were fans of Evil Dead: The Musical. "Cabin in the Woods" is the play's first song.
