Buying Drinks, Food & Tribbles

I'm trying to figure out how people in the 23rd & 24th centuries bought things like, Troi buying drinks at a starbase, people buying food & drink either at Quark's or the Klingon establishment on DS9, or how everyone bought a Tribble off of Cyrano Jones in "The Trouble With Tribbles" episode of TOS!?
In several episodes of TOS "credits" were mentioned, do you think "credits" are still in use in the 24th century?

With gold press latinum of course. Or, at least I think, DS9 has given me the impression that latinum is more or less a universal form of currency.

Well at Quark's its always gold pressed latinum...but where did the Starfleet officers get that from? It seems to me like I would feel left out if I was a Starfleet officer who wasn't allowed to use the holodeck on my own station if I didn't have money..it was all very confusing.

Quark does trade with other species though, and yet seems to use latinum. Maybe they have a system where they can convert different currencies instantly.

Though, like futuristic toilets, don't overthink certain aspects of Trek.
