Burt Reynolds Facing Foreclosure

the G-man

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Bank aims to foreclose on Burt Reynolds' Fla. home: Merrill Lynch Credit Corp. has filed a lawsuit in Martin County against Reynolds, BankAtlantic and Great Eastern Mortgage, claiming the Emmy Award-winning actor has not made a mortgage payment since Sept. 1, 2010 on the 12,500-square-foot house.

While, intellectually, I realize that he's an old man now, he hasn't had much of a career for a long time and surely lost a lot of bucks in that messy divorce with Loni Anderson, on a gut "child of the 70s" level, I find this news hard to believe and sort of depressing.

Deliverance...the Longest Yard...Gator...Semi-Tough...Cannonball Run...Smokey and the Bandit... he was the biggest actor in Hollywood for a not-insignificant part of my childhood.

Maybe he should make Cop and a Half 2 to round up some money.

Sorry, could resist. :p

Seriously though, I am sorry to hear this. I wasn't a child of the 70s (child of the 80s myself), but I did really enjoy he work.

It's a shame as I always liked Burt, but like you say you do have to wonder where the money went, especially given he had a bit of a mini revival not so long ago (though probably longer ago than I think)

Well I for one look forward to a third installment of Cannonball Run, considering all of the unanswered questions from Cannonball Run 2.

Yeah, I think the last thing he appeared in was the Dukes of Hazzard movie which was terrible. He was so miscast in that. I'm surprised he hasn't thought of pushing for a Smokey reboot to fill his coffers. What makes me laugh is that he says he's surprised by the lawsuit. You don't pay for almost a year and you're surprised about the lawsuit? :wtf:

I can't muster much sympathy for someone who has earned that sort of money over his career and can't hold on to his house.

That sucks. I just watched him on a repeat of Burn Notice.
It's the same now, people in their prime think it'll last forever and fail to plan I guess.

Agreed, but I still would like to see him turn this around. Despite a very sketchy career I've always thought him to be a good actor, and someone capable of much better than the majority of his roles.

Loved his appearances in My Name is Earl as Chubby, the strip club owner.

He was/is a good actor but he had terrible, terrible, taste in movies. Probably the biggest example is when he turned down the male lead in "Terms of Endearment" (it ended up going to Nicholson) in order to make Cannonball Run II. He also turned down "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (another one that when to Nicholson). Even his "comeback" role didn't work out due to his inability to judge movies. He considered his work in "Boogie Nights" to be a disaster and it ended up nominated for an Oscar.

This is a shame. I've always liked Burt Reynolds. I hope that he finds a way out of this - he is actually originally from around there (West Palm Beach - I am too and he was 'the hometown celebrity' when I was a kid) and I'd hate to see him lose his house in that area. Everyone likes him so much down there.

This guy was the #1 box office star in the world the year Star Wars came out. Hopefully, at least a couple of young actors will take note and plan accordingly.

He was supposedly playing the 'American guest star' lead role in Carry On London, but that went the way of all the other proposed revivals of the Carry On series over the last 20 years...

I think they need to give up on trying to revive the Carry On films. They were of their time and I don't think you could reinvent them now.

Maybe a few will but if the "E True Hollywood Story" and "VH1 Behind the Music" are any indication there will always be celebrities who refuse to plan for the inevitable decline in star power.
