Build your own Space base.

KJbushway

Commodore
This forum you can build your own space base. It can be a space station, dry dock, etc.
List the technology you would have in it.
How would you produce AG?
What emergency tech do you have installed
How does a ship dock, what type of dock?
What power generator do you have, you can have Fusion if you want.
If you have a picture for reference, please post it.
Enjoy. :bolian:

Cowboy Bebop fans, you probably saw this coming.

It's a major city, obviously, built in the a cylindrical hollow in the asteroid's center of rotation (that rotation is rigorously balanced by counterweights and flywheels to prevent the thing from wobbling).

In Cowboy Bebop the docking scheme was pretty straight forward: go through the airlock, hunt down a convenient parking space, while larger ships make a water landing and pull up to the pier. There's probably a non-rotating section on the far side to allow larger ships or very temporary visitors to soft dock and enter the city through an external gate and transition into gravity. Truckers like V.T. would probably make use of these more often than not (I don't see those things reacting very well to gravity).

Dome 1 - Ore processing. A small fleet of (mostly) automated mining robots will collect rocks from the landscape and underground, bringing back rocks that can be processed in to ore and used in assembly and repair. Hopefully the rocks will also contain oxides and water, which can be used to supply the crew with Oxygen and Water, and supply Hydrogen for the reactor and visiting space vessels.

Dome 2 - Fusion Reactor, Fission Reactor (for heavier elements found during mining), plus Hydrogen and Water storage.

Dome 3 - Solar farm. Full to the brim with solar panels, which still need protecting from small impacts, etc., so would be kept indoors, or possibly hardened and placed outdoors. Some of the panels collect electricity (complementing the reactor), others are used directly for heating.

Dome 4 - Geothermal plant. Another source of energy and heat for the base.

Dome 5 - Manufacturing centre. Capable of used mined materials to fashion replacement components for the base, new components (such as buildings), using the latest 3D printing techniques to lay down pieces layer by layer and create any object or shape.

Dome 6 - Vegetable garden. Despite being a meateater myself, for efficiency reasons my crew will need to stick to vegetables and vitamin/calcium supplements and whatever else they can grow under the dome.

Dome 7 - Water and Oxygen recycling plant, including aqua purifiers, carbon dioxide scrubbers, etc. No need to waste collected resources when 80% can be reclaimed from what comes out the other end! Even solid waste is going to be reprocessed in to fertiliser for the vegetable garden using algae!

Dome 8 - Habitat. Last but not least, the area where the crew sleeps, lives, conducts science and just has some fun makes up only a small part of the total, self sufficient base. Contains a gym with appropriate measures to keep muscles and bones maintained in a low gravity environment. Also some fun, such as a movie theatre, multisports area, etc. to maintain morale. Also contains an infirmary, with full medical and surgical facilities.

Dome 9 - Maintenance/Workshop - contains spacesuits, ground based vehicles to perform inspection tours, a workshop for fixing components of the base, etc.

Other areas:

Communications dishes - sited redundantly at several points around the base.
Landing pad - for visiting ships.
Emergency shelter - underground, for meteor storms, etc.

If you looked at my space base, it would be three wide circles on top of each other that spins slowly to create small gravity. In the middle would be a long cylinder with connections to the outer rings. The first level(bottom ring) would be for cargo storage and waste management systems. The second level(middle ring) would be for ship repair and ship mod. Workers would sleep there, crews would stay there, and there is base lounges and kitchens on this ring. The third ring(the top ring) would be made of science labs, operation control room. On top the top ring on the outside you would see dooms every few hundred feet all around the top.

The cylinder would hold the Fusion generator and would hold the station crew quarters, crew kitchens, would house the base control room. It would hold environmental control room, it would house the computer bays, and it would house the shuttles at the bottom for emergency base evac.

Emergency systems:
on the rings there will be escape pods that will go to the pod retrieval if they are launched.
There would be back up generator, back up enviromental systems.
All of these systems are only temp. There is shuttles in the bottom of the cylinder for Evac of all station people, if the problem can't be fixed in time.
