Buffy Season 7 vs. Angel Season 5 vs. Dollhouse Season 2

Which final season of which of these Joss Whedon shows is the best in your opinion? What makes the final season of that show the best to you?

Angel season 5 eclipses both...if BtVS had ended with season 5...that would be the best one. IMHO. I don't think you can put a show with 2 seasons with shows that had 7 & 5 respectively.

Definitely Angel Season Five, even if the first half of the season felt just a little "off". I did enjoy Buffy S7, it was a hell of a lot better than S6. Dollhouse S2, well the second half of it, was the first time I truly enjoyed the series.

Angel's fifth season was it's best, Buffy's seventh season was its worst. Dollhouse was never really good to begin with. Angel wins this category so easily it's not even funny.

Angel's fifth season was the best. Buffy season 7 had a few nice moments here and there but was not a strong season. Dollhouse Season 2 was very good in comparison to Dollhouse season 1, but suffered from having to compress 3 seasons of storylines into the last 10 episodes.

Someone says something like this in every comparison thread.
So why the hell CAN'T they be compared?? We're talking about quality, not quantity. Moreover in this case, the question was about a single season of each show, which totally levels the playing field.

Oh yeah, the question  - I think Dollhouse's final season was better than either Buffy or Angel's. By S7 Buffy herself had become downright unlikeable, and the plots too dark and less fun. By S5, Angel was almost unbearabley confusing and unfocused (and again, too dark). Dollhouse became more and more intriguing and anjoyable.

I guess that's the root of the question - I enjoyed Dollhouse's final season. a lot more than Buffy or Angel's final seasons.

Angel season 5.
Buffy S7 was decent up until the whole business with the potential slayers, then it got really bad. I haven't seen Dollhouse.

There is alot more leading up to these final seasons...now if you wanted to compare season 2 of BtVS, Angel & Dollhouse that might be a little different. IMHO.

I just don't think it is fair to Dollhouse to have only 2 seasons and comparing it with shows that have had 7/5 seasons...might I add more than 2 good seasons each.

Buffy's 7th season had a good build-up in the first half, but became very mediocre when they brought the Potentials into the storyline.

In fact, I'd say the season "blew its wad" too early, with Conversations w/Dead People and Sleeper all happening very early in the season and the whole thing dragging along after that.

The Potentials had a brilliant pay-off: Buffy broke the last rule. There's no way Whedon had this in mind when he created the series, but in retrospect it looks almost planned. ;)

Angel? Hell, they meandered around per usual until Whedon was told they were cancelled, at which point an ending was whipped together.

I don't dislike Buffy s7 like certain people; it ain't half bad at all. But I would have to go for Angel s5.
With episodes like Destiny, You're Welcome, A Hole in the World, Shells and Not Fade Away, how can I not?

Angel Season 5 without question.

Dollhouse S2 veered wildly between being great and being pointless, and Buffy S7 consisted mainly of shouting arguments in the Summers' living room, Pattonesque speeches from Buffy, and an endless parade of 'potentials.' IMO it was probably the weakest season of the series.

I dunno, I think Season 7 was marginally better than Season 1 based sheerly on the episode "Conversations with Dead people". ;)

While we're at it, I'd throw in Firefly which in half a season managed to be better than all of Dollhouse.

I'd rank them:

Angel Season 5
Firefly Season 1
Dollhouse Season 2
Buffy Season 7

^^^I totally concede that "Conversations With Dead People" is a great episode (probably in my top 10) but one great episode doesn't save what in my opinion was a fairly mediocre season.

I fully agree with you about FF's half season being better than DH as a whole, though.:techman:

In the end, this is all nothing but personal opinion, but it's fun to see how other people's opinions line up (or don't) with my own.

Don't get me wrong.......Buffy Season 7 was a real let down after Season 2-6. I just think both Seasons 1 and 7 were mediocre at best......the only difference between them is that Season 7 had a few really wonderful episodes and some very nice moments here and there that Buffy Season 1 hadn't earned yet....thus my opinion that Buffy Season 7 slightly nudges Season 1 for overall quality.

As you point out though, this is all merely subjective opinion....
