Buck Rogers 35th Anniversary

The original opening for the pilot when they played it in theaters:

thanks.

I wish Universal or Koch media in Germany (who i have contacted) would at least release the movie on Blu-Ray.

What better time then the 35th Anniversary eh?

I remember watching this show. I couldn't get past the 3rd episode. The original BSG was corny as fuck, but still had some pretty mature themes.

Buck Rogers seemed to be similar style wise, but it really went down to a Sesame Street level in its story telling. They even had Mel Blanc voice the kiddie robot that goes "beetee beetee beetee" about once every 30 seconds.

Both shows were produced by Glen Larson. They shared a lot of production materials.

I watched both Buck and BSG recently and you get the sense that with Buck Rogers it was consciously corny and cheesy while BSG seems more earnest. I found Buck to be a lot of fun if you approach the material as being presented with a knowing wink.

It may be apocryphal, but I read somewhere that Gil Gerard was told to play his role as "Burt Reynolds in space", at least during the first season.

Sincerely,

Bill

I heard that as well. Gil would often change his lines in the scripts figuring "what could they do, I was the star." Then he pushed for a more serious approach in season 2, but he knew when they changed it to finding the lost tribes of earth they were going to be cancelled.

They were already in trouble ratings wise near the end of season 1, hence the higher budgeted "Flight of the War Witch episode." But like everything else it was rushed, so much that the War Witch ship ended up being filmed upside down as it was never fully completed.

I had a Burger King promo one-sheet of this show, from when Juanin Clay was still slated to play Wilma Deering. Had it in pristine condition for years, framed & all...& then I lost everything in a fire some years ago.

I'm sure I remember reading that the Terran starfighters were the original concept for the vipers in BSG.

And the same universe, apparently.

The rumor was, if BSG had made it to a second season (Galactica 1980 doesn't count, for obvious reasons), the "rag-tag fugitive fleet" would have found Earth - that is, Buck's Earth - and the two shows would merge.

Does anyone know if this was ever actually true?

Hadn't heard of that but it would've been awesome.

I've been thinking about another animation project with that premise.

Thanks for posting this I saw it at the cinema as a kid. Those opening credits stuck in my mind for all those years. Apparently beautiful women in skimpy bathing suits had an impression on my impressionable self back in the day. I remember posting about these opening credits years back here on the bbs and only one other person recalled them. Nice to see them again. I know it's cheesy, but I love the theme tune, too!
