BtVS Remake-Movie?

We haven’t heard anything about the impending Buffy the Vampire Slayer remake in awhile, but somewhere out there it’s ongoing. In fact they may even be casting. ShowBizSpy claims Vanessa Hudgens turned down an unspecified role in the film. Here’s the weird thing. She turned it down because she didn’t think it could beat Twilight. That doesn’t make any sense.

What would make sense is forgetting this remake notion entirely and just making a movie with the Buffy cast from Joss Whedon’s popular TV show, since that's the only cast anyone wants. Till now that hasn’t seemed like an option. It’s pretty clear that Whedon won’t be involved and because of that most of the cast have said they wouldn’t be either, if they were asked, which they haven’t been. Back in December Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow in the television series, told us that she thought the remake was a “very big mistake” and adamantly declared, “Joss is the only reason that we would go back.” But maybe that “we” didn’t include Buffy, Sarah Michelle Gellar.

While several of the castmembers from the television show have chimed in and voiced their displeasure with the remake, we’ve heard nothing on the subject from Buffy herself. And now, buried in ShowBizSpy’s Hudgens article there’s this aside: “VANESSA Hudgens has turned down the chance to team up with Sarah Michelle Gellar and bring Buffy the Vampire Slayer back from the dead.” What? They seem to think Gellar is actually in the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. Is it true? Do they know what they’re talking about? Right now we have no idea. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear something more concrete from a better source, but if you're a fan, it's probably unrealistic to hope for more than a cameo.

Here.

I am glad Vanessa Hudgens won't be a part of this. I'd hope for a BtVS movie with characters from the show.
If it was a remake with a whole new cast...I am going to throw this name now out there again...Taylor Momsen would make a great Buffy Summers.

I wouldn't mind seeing a fresh take on the concept...by someone with talent...but you might be right...without Joss...epic fail.

The problem here is that the same people who fucked up the first movie, the Kuzais, are the same people who want to re-boot the franchise. The Kuzais may have had a credit in every episode of Buffy and Angel, but they had zero creative influence on it.

This whole project definitely sounds ill-timed and ill-advised. I guess if they make it really really cheap they'll probably make their money just off curiosity. From what I remember of the original movie it seems like you could probably make it for about the price of a Syfy production.

I wouldn't want a remake. But I wouldn't be opposed to a reunion type movie, set 10 years after the ending of the series which is coming up in 3 years. Maybe Joss and co will be will to revisit the series after The Avengers. Maybe have another Hellmouth open up elsewhere. Not sure if story elements from the comics would come into play.

Why is every young person in Hollywood either called Taylor or Brittany these days?

Having just started watching BtVS again recently from the beginning I have to say, "NO!"

When the story first broke we had a big discussion about it and there was a general agreement that without Joss's involvement or approval of it...a remake of something he created is just silly. I laughed at the line that Jetfire posted from the story that Hudgens reportedly turned down the role she was offered because she didn't think it would "beat" Twilight. If that's true what a ridiculous reason to turn something down...I wonder what she was offered? If it is a straight up remake of the original film the only part I can think of worth her time would be Buffy herself. I don't remember any other real strong female characters from the original film. I won't be seeing this if it gets made and that's not because I'm against a fresh take on it...I'm against using Joss's creation without him (doesn't matter with the movie rights differences problem or whatever).

The only remake I want to see is Joss Whedon's original vision for the feature film. I want to see Buffy burn down the gymnasium!

A remake without Joss would piss a lot of people off...but the The Kuzai's most likely want to make money with this franchise while they can. The fact that nothing is really being done with the Buffyverse is time/money wasted...they got cash in on vampires while they are still hot.

IMHO, without Joss Whedon being involved, there's no point in even talking about this. Epic fail.

Completely agree. I won't see or support this production if Joss Whedon is not involved.

The Kuzuis are just money hungry. They have this dormant franchise, and they see Twilight's massive success, and they just jump on the bandwagon and say 'Me too!'

I find the idea behind this inherently offensive. If it never got made I'd be okay with it.

Deafpoet's current avatar pic perfectly illustrates my feeling toward those who would remake a Buffy project without Joss Whedon.

I can understand them wanting to pump this thing out to cash in on the current vampire craze but if one of your reported potential cast members rejects you because she thinks your project won't "beat" Twilight I think that should give you an indication that maybe this won't work the way you want it to lol.

Or Vanessa Hudgens is just being stupid...I don't like her anyway.

I would have thought maybe Vanessa would've watched Buffy as a kid...but then maybe not I don't think she's stupid, I just thought if that WAS her reason and if she was approached for a role that was a retarded reason to turn something down. Vanessa Hudgens as Buffy Anne Summers has...possibilities :)

If Joss isn't involved.... Fuck it.

If they go the movie route, I'd love to see various pieces of the whole Slayerverse get thrown into the mix and why not a FRAY movie while we're at it.

Vampires IN THE FUTURE! Whee!

My dream movie is a "Fray" adaption with Natalie Portman since she was the original model they used to draw Meleka.
