BBC| Barbara Shelley, Hammer Horror Actress, dies aged 88 She appeared in films like "Cat Girl", "Village of the Damned", "The Shadow of the Cat", "The Gorgon", "Dracula: Prince of Darkness", "Rasputin the Mad Monk", or "Quatermass & the Pit". She also had guest appearances on TV shows like "Danger Man", "The Saint", "The Man from UNCLE", "The Avengers", "Blake's 7" and "Doctor Who". She apparently contracted COVID-19 during a check-up in a hospital, and had to spend two weeks in isolation before Christmas. While she seemed to have recovered, her health had taken a hit, and so she got another infection from which she passed on Monday, January 4.
Sad to hear. She was a staple of 1960s genre movies, but I remember her best from DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS (where she goes from prim Victorian worrywart to hissing vampiress) and FIVE MILLION YEARS TO EARTH (aka QUATERMASS AND THE PIT) where, come to think of it, she goes from curious scientist to being possessed by long-dead Martians . . . . .
