According to various sources, it has been confirmed that Brian Singer is partnering with FOX to do a remake of the classic Jules Verne's tale, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". I am very excited about this. That story has always been one of my favorites. it will be interesting to see Singer's take on it. I hope he stays true to the original and does not try some weird modern re-interpretation.

in others - no fucking nuclear power or atomic explosions at the end.

Well, it sounds like they're pretty sure this one is going to happen. I'm a big fan of most of Singer's stuff that I've seen, so I look forward to what he does with 20K Leagues.

Who's got the chops to play James Mason, I mean Captain Nemo?
This likely sounds cliche at this point, but I'd love to see Idris Elba as Captain Nemo, ooh, or maybe shake things up a bit and have Jodie Foster play Captain Nemo. She's great at serious roles, and I think she could play Nemo with a bit of mystery and intrigue. I mean, no one replaces James Mason. When I watched 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for the first time, I was shocked, because on the screen I saw the same man that was in my mind's eye when I read Jules Verne's story. So instead of trying to replace someone who was stellar in the role, I suggest being more creative with the casting, really make it sing (no pun intended).

I'm all for shaking things up, but I suppose it's going to depend on how closely he wants to follow the source material. Nemo's supposed to be an Indian prince, so if Singer wants to keep that, he can't stray too far.

Honestly though, I'm more interested in how they depict the Nautilus. ;)

Oh my goodness, I forgot that about the book! Well, in that case the only person who can play Nemo is Faran Tahir (I realize he's from Pakistan, but they are neighbors). Come on, you can't tell me the man who played Richard Robau couldn't kick ass as Captain Nemo!

Also, yes, I'm curious to see what the Nautilus will look like as well!

I saw Ramon Tikaram in Midsomer Murders the other day. He carried a lot of the intensity Nemo should have as well as the suave. Great voice, too.

just make sure no one in the cast is under 18.

Yeah, why's that?

Oh my, you're right! Above all else, Captain Nemo needs to be someone who is seasoned, who has experience, and unfathomable knowledge.

Back to your earlier post, James Mason has a hard voice to shake off. Back in college, I once saw a film clip of Rommel speaking and thought 'Weird, he doesn't sound like James Mason.'

It's very commanding, and has this authoritative quality so that you automatically attach it to people of importance, even if you've never heard them speak.
