Brian De Palma to possibly direct "Paranormal Activity 2"

File this under one of those crazy "WTF?!" moments.

Oh and then there’s Brian De Palma. Yes, the same filmmaker responsible for The Untouchables, Carrie, Blow Out and Scarface. Have things gotten that bad for the guy? Most certainly sounds as much.
Click here for more info. You know I thought Paranormal Activity was overrated and De Palma has certainly fallen off the radar lately in terms of making good movies, but I would actually see a Brian De Palma-directed PA2 just for the insane unbelievability of it all. It's like if Martin Scorsese directed a Saw movie. There's that curiosity factor that's highly appealing, even if the movie might outright suck.

Sweet! Martin Scorsese can direct the Saw reboot in three years with Daniel Day-Lewis as Jigsaw and Anne Hathaway as his apprentice!

And Uwe Boll directs The Other Piano, while Michael Bay creates and updated version of The Schindler's List.

Fassbinder, if he would have been still alive, could reboot the Terminator franchise with some hints of Angst essen Seele auf in it.

My wife just stopped the video in the middle of the movie...was it any good by the end? Worth trying again by Redbox? Or just give it up?

the end was probably the best part. although the part where the woman gets dragged out out of bed and down the hallway was pretty freakin scary as well.

If this becomes true at some point then I may be interested in seeing Paranormal Activity 2 as far as I'm concerned the only ending is the original theatrical ending to PA.

yea i saw that ending too....although it was a little bit more realistic to what was going on....it was kind of just ho hum for me, possibly because it was a finite ending and lacked the shock value, a movie liked that needed, meaning like the poster said above, having to endure that grind. But yeah a big major scare to send people home to at 2am. Well in my experience anyways because i was able to see it when they only had it at midnight screenings before it hit major release.

i wonder if they would play off the ending of the theatrical version, with the same demon in either the same host or a new host, something to that effect.

What could they even do in a sequel? It's going to be as pointless as the Blair Witch sequel.

That 2nd Blair Witch movie was the first thing that came to mind when I heard this. I don't really understand the reasoning of this at all. Not that I have any problem with Brian de Palma or his movies... even when the script isn't up to snuff, they're always visually quite interesting.

My personal theory is that the second one is going to follow a chase for Katie and possibly we might see the demonologist whom Micha was trying to contact but was out of town. I like the theory posted in the spoiler code by the poster above. That seems the most logical.

Execution-wise I don't really see how they could pull it off, I mean would it still be a candid camera sort of thing? I think a better take would be to maybe make it so it's like a movie about the movie (lost tapes). May sound like we're venturing into Blair Witch territory here, but a documentary crew the same ones who "found and edited this movie" some how track down this demonologist, and either they go with what I mentioned in the spoiler code or go different direction entirely but I think a new case study would be too much of a retread

although if they were to go with the same character and they locked her up in a mental institution than all the footage we see is by use of interview footage of the patient and security footage to go along with it for B-Roll than i could see that work too.

When I first heard they were planning to do a sequel without Oren Peli writing and directing but serving as an Executive Producer I thought this would turn out to be another Blair Witch 2 which was just atrocious and completely unnecessary. Paramount hired writer Micheal Perry whom I looked up and it turns out has won an Emmy Award in 1997 for NYPD Blue. The fact that they're looking to change directors makes me think they're treating this as a serious project. I believe that it's slated to come out sometime in Oct of this year so we'll see how things go. As a fan of the original theatrical film I am doubting that they will be able to capture the impact that the first movie made.

haha usually the case.

same, ill be more stoked when i know more concrete info on the plot and execution of production. they'd be smart not to release any info at all until close to the release. Not saying they should do the same grassroots viral marketing like they did to "demand it" at your local theater, but keep the marketing machine at a minimum and if the product is good, word of mouth and then massive viral and commercial marketing could perhaps make it just as successful.

Out right saying this is a sequel already gives it the stigma of being a studio produced sequel with an actual film narrative like Blair Witch 2 was. So i dunno.
